Hey all,

I'm my acewell neutral light started flickering awhile ago, I thought in might be water in somewhere, but the bike has been sat in doors for a week or 2 now, and it's still doing it, I've had the wiring out all over the place looking for the problem, but I just can't work it out, it flickers only when the engine is running, maybe voltage effecting a leak to earth? and it doesn't stop if the neutral light switch is unplugged, but does if the wire to the clock from inside the head light is unwired, can't see any damage to wires, but I assume that it can't be inside the clock it self if it doesn't do it when the wire is removed?

Electrics are a pain.

any help would b much appreciated :)

Rune.

forgot to mention, I replaced the relay with a pattern part which hasn't solved the problem.

and since posting this I have taken all the wiring out and checked for damage, can't find anything, I've taken the neutral light wire from the relay and run it round the out side of the bike, if I unplug the wire from the relay the light goes out fully, but plugged in and it flickers, really annoying, could it just be that the new relay is bad too? as the problem is the same if the neutral switch is unplugged, so just as soon as the neutral light is connected to the relay.

the weirdest and most annoying thing is that it only happens with the engine running...

help... :(

What is the bike in question?

hey, it's a 2000 SV650 naked, with an acewell 4554 speedo, it was working fine up till a couple of weeks ago and it was during all the wet weather we've been having, though I have taken the whole thing apart and can't find any water.. or damage to the loom..

been hunting for a solution after putting the bike back together with no problems found, and I think i've come up with a posable cause, if anyone could let me know if this sounds feasible that'd be great.

what I'm thinking is that possibly the rectifier is letting some AC current through, and that is messing with the LED warning lights I noticed that the indicator and sidelight light LED warning lights are also just barely flickering sometimes but not all the time, and they only flicker when the engine is running, which is why I came up with the idea that it could be the rectifier (voltage is ok 12.something not running 14.something running according to the acewell) I'm going to buy a multi meter tomorrow if I can and see if I can find the fault, any ideas for tests to do would be great!

Interesting idea - you could test by running the bike with the regulator/rectifier disconnected. That way it would run only on the battery, which as I'm sure you know is DC.

petty much ruled this out though, got a multi meter and tested various things, including ac voltage and the regulator rectifier, as far as I can make out it must be something wrong in the acewell clock, there is no leak to ground on the neutral light wire with the bike in gear running or not with the clock unplugged.

I think the problem must be in the clock, because if I unplug every thing and just connect to the side lights and neutral or oil light to the clock (no power to the clock) then switch the side lights on the side light warning lamp is lit and the neutral or oil light (if the bike is in neutral for the neutral light and not running for the oil light so that it would be connected) there must be a crossed connection in the clock.... great...
