Hi all
Some of you may be aware but most of you probably wont but I am a diagnosed epileptic and have been since 13, throughout my life I have been very stable on my medication, although I does have some very bad side affects.
Recently I have been changed off my usual medication (which I have been on for 16 years on to a newer drug with less side effects to my health) ,this wouldn't have been possible without the help of epilepsy research funding research into newer therapies so as a nod to this and to give something back I set myself a challenge.
The challenge being to run 4 competitive races throughout the year each different and challenging in different ways
The first I already completed was the brocholes 5k trail run on 5th January, I came 71st out of 110 people and was the 28th woman, which wasn't bad for my first competitive race for over 16 years
my next race is this coming Saturday
brocholes 5mile head torch trail race
The third is the no ego 10k obstacle race on may 10th
so far I haven't found a forth as I missed the ballot for bupa great north run, but as soon I I know I will post.
What I ask is if you are able to spare any money to sponsor me on my quest to raise money and to prove to people that having an illness or disability doesn't have to limit your life.
anything you can spare will be greatly appreciated, below is a link to my just giving page

I will keep you all updated on my progress with pics etc so you know I haven't wimped out

well well that was interesting,
yesterday was my 10k mudd obstacle race at leisure lakes near southport, luckly for us it stayed mainly dry and not too windy for our trip around the course, but it was definatly and educational experience.
firstly we had to register and drop our bags and wait for our wave to be called, then when the time came the overly enthusiastic gym queen took us through the most bizzare warm up I have ever done, to a cheezy disco song.
then it was our time to go the first part of the course wasn't that challenging with a few ditches and running through ponds(or swimming if you happen to be under 6ft), this showed me how many people didn't seem to get the concept of just how muddy it was going to get as within the first 800 mtrs of the course people where trying to dodge the mudd, which I saw as pretty pointless, the first things that required thaught was an army crawling cargo net and tyres you had to run througheasy peasy. Then next came the natural obstacles of crawling through the forest and up and over tree branches, and running through mudd.we then came to some things that I recognised, cross country jumps!! (as in horsey ones) so just to be silly me and my cousin thaught it would be funny to jump them like a horse does.
At this point the abstacles started to become more taxing not just because we had been running but this started with cargo net A frame climbs and it was then showing how many people weren't expecting how big they actually were, next came more ditches, and over and under obstacles including a lovles sets of tyers which you had to crawl on the floor under,.
next was a verticle tyre wall which consisted of 10 18in tyers roped together into a verticle wall and suspended in a wooden frame
next was the one thing that I knew I was going to find really challenging(8ft wall) no rope and one small foot hole at the bottom just over 2 ft off the ground, firstly I gave my cousin a hand getting over giving her a boost then it was ny turn and luckly the bloke behind me gave me a little boost when I began to struggle, it wasn't pretty but I managed it getting down however was a whole different matter not realising exactly how high it was I decided to jump, cue face plant number 1, lucky the ground was soft so I was ok.
off we carried on sandbag carry through the next lot of crawling jungle gym(with barbed wire on top). more crawling tunnels full of mudd and tractor tyers . Then came the A frame( no rope 8ft tall and two small foot holes at bottom we had to que as people were taking ages and making a right meal of it to get over,(some even went round not attempting it) we stayed and with a quick scramble after denying help from the men around that said we would need a leg up both me and my cousin quickly scrambled over. small gates next which were easy for people who are used to vaulting full size ones. Next was the longest and most disgusting part of the course, wading through a ditch which was the length of a field(800mts) the ditch water was more of a bog which came up to our armpits and had fallen tree branches that tripped you up if you didn't watch your footing. here we caught up all the people who went round the a frame even this people missed out to a courus of boos from the people in the bog. we where now over half waymore crawling tunnels and trips through pits which again were nearing 6ft in depth, good job we were scrappy, nore ponds then into the wood again. we could here the music of the start so knew we must be near the finish,
Then came the water slide and floating loogs in the water where I lost my balance I went for a dunk( at least I was slightly cleaner), next we had a fence to climb between two silver birsh trees which was a good 15ft in the air, easy peasy I just told myself it was a field fence and easy.
I could see the finnish now just a couple more water featuers, and ditches to go. and climbing a frame, balance beam then the final two obstacles, volunteers with foam pads to run through then up the sloped climbing wall the finish, we went for the right hand rope with no knots as it seemed to be moving faster leaned back and ascended the final obstacle, what a sence of achievement I felt as I went over the line, we looked like swamp thing a probably smelt like it but I felt amazing.
would defiantly recommend if you want to test your tolerance and grit for as the guy at the start says "the obstacles aren't made to test you but to kill you". I would definatly recommend it, what made me and my cousin really proud was that on the big climbing obstacles the volunteer watching it went safetly said that very few women actually tried them they went round, we completed all 44 obstacles with little help as our team was only us two.
A great day had and would defiantly do it again, much different than your normal 10k
