Hello everyone :).
Iv seen a plate which isnt too expensive (£400) and im unsure whether to buy it or not. Just after a few more opinions really, so thought you guys are usually good at that!
The plate is:
OL13 TAY
itll be goin on my 13 plate fabia. I would like it on the bike but its too much of an oldie haha.
Oh yeah, and my names Oliver Taylor
Cheers :).

A lot of people don't like them, but my SV has my initials and LPH which was a gift for my 40th. I like it because it's probably the most effort Mr LPH has ever gone to for a present.

Ones that don't look personalized are okay, although somewhat pointless.
it's what it means to you that matters . . . . the only issue you may get is people noticing you more when you are out & about if the plate is distinctive (i.e not the standard format/7 digits).

Hmm thats the problem haha. Although it does say my name quite well
Just not sure anybody would realise haha
Does it matter if people realise?

If you like the idea, do it. I got one for our Fiesta partly because it makes it easier to find amongst all the other black Fiestas in a car park. It's worked more than once!

Yeah haha. I can usually find mine. Its parked right at the other side, away from everybody else to avoid smashed im doors, then somebodys parked a 15 year old banger about 5cms away from it.
Thats what usually seems to happen anyway haha
Ill keep looking for any more, see if i can find any better

nearly all personalised plates i see don't make sense. I would only consider on being worth while if it said "GAV 1".
otaylor38
13-02-14, 09:35 PM
Gav 1? But my names oli? ;) haha.
Yeah i know what you mean mate. Unfortunately all the really good ones cost nearly as much as the car aha

I have one on my sv too, it's my birthday and my initials and I was given it for my 18th birthday. it was a cracking birthday present I thought and still do :) although you wouldn't really know it was a personalised plate, which I also quite like about it, as it's only one digit short of being completely normal.

Tempted to tag along to AR this year tbh. Never been to one before thoughsp not sure what goes off really haha
If you like the plate go with it.
14 out next month so may going down in price.
I have had one since the 80's and bought my last one of the dvla site.
It's just over the. One'er to retain it when you chop in the old car for a new one. It includes the transfer fee too
You can retain them for 3years on the trot for a few quid more

I think the right plate in the right place is nice. Combatfreds shows as Busa Boy which is nice. Cousins race van has R88 LFR as he's always raced using the number 88 so it Racer 88 Lewis Farrow Racing. Does seem to run in my family my sisters is her date of birth and her initials, & my old man has kept the same number plate for about 30 years, it would look weird to me to see him driving a car with a different plate.

My Son (Niall) got a personal plate off me & his Mother fa Christmas a few years ago...........N1ALL £85.000 (😝)
N14LLF-unavailable, ended up with (his choice) N14LYF.
I got a pull fa 'using illegal "show" plates' when I borrowed his car fa work one evening........gottaway with "get em changed".......

I reckon less than 25% of the people here have SV's anyway.

Nor do I.
Well to be fair they're fast enough, just. But they also have other deficiencies that neither my wallet nor my abilities can compensate for.
Half the forum rides triumphs and I dare say almost as many have a litre bike of some sort.

Haha. He likes to think hes quite quick. Be nice to see him fair against some of the people on here. I bet some of you lot are properly fast haha.
I only find the need for more power on the straights. Theres enough in the corners, as i like to ride as smooth as possible. Its really easy to throw around too.

My Z4 had a irregular plate when I bought it. I was gonna change it, then couldn't be bothered, then figured that when its clean and polished, you just wouldn't be able to tell how old it was which was nice.
Best two plates I have seen are on a Jag XK and Range Rover on my commute. "2B" (always parked on the left) and "NOT 2B". They must have cost or now be worth well north of half a million, possibly closer to a million though given they are parked on a driveway on the Chelsea embankment, the guy who owns them is probably not short a bob or two.
I am quite lucky in having a 3 letter surname, so i get ORR on my plate, not many with the surname, so easy to recognise it's mine. I only got it cos we bought a Discovery and the plate was SA 52 VDV. The missus flattly refused to drive around in a car that had VD !!! (same as STD for the young 'uns)
Only downside is when you sell the car, it costs £80 to transfer and the paperwork is a pain in the ****. just make sure you transfer / retain before you sell the motor. i got a quick sale and it caused all kinds of sh*te. Plus the insurance charge you another £20 to change their paperwork, Barstewards.

I have an old personalised plate (from before I was married 15 years ago!), I love it because it is mine, and it always reminds me of the day my dad brought it for me, I had been shooting at the national championships, came 5th my dad was really rude and asked me if there were only five people in the class, realised what a git he had been and brought it for me to apologise, the only time he has ever apologised, worth remembering.
What is the plate Mrs D J Fridge, is it cool?

Thought about this thread at the weekend. I had forgotten about my cousins numberplate on his race van he's had since he was 18 (or 21). He's always raced as 88 when he can.
don't know about a private plate but i wish you would stop with the 'haha' at the end of every sentence.

£400 would get you about 4000 miles on that bike, thats a full seasons riding for most.
Get yourself off over to europe on the bike and see something with the money instead!!!!
Milau bridge, the alps, into Italy etc.
Memorys thats what count :-)

Cant argue with that! Haha.
Its all money isnt it. Car and bike insurance tax fuel etc etc
Seem to turn over plenty of money but takes me a while to save up for something novelty aha.
Just spent £130 on a front tyre haha :).
