View Full Version : Astrophotography
So I decided to buy an adapter kit for my D3200 so I could mount it to my wife's telescope. Now all I need is some clear skies! Watch this space.

Will just need to work out the settings required as it will be in manual mode.
I tried this on my Nikon but even in manual mode it would nothing but a grey photo. Interested to see if you fair better.
So my first attempts were not great. I couldn't get any focus without a barlow lens in between. However I have found that if I want any type of magnification that I need yet another adapter to hold an eyepiece.

I think it used incorrectly far too often.

I'll be interested to see what comes of this, I was debating it myself but have a starter scope and tried with my bridge camera to no avail and haven't tried it with my DSLR for fear of similar results. Keep us posted! Hope you get some luck.
I need to wait until the moon is up again. I have 24mp to play with so cropping shouldn't be an issue.
I have finally got round to getting the last piece I need to start taking photos. Should be here in few days. Then I just need a clear night.
I have a good friend who does this.... :)
some of his data crunching images.....

Looking good. Do you have a link for that big tube adapter?
'Twas an eBay job. You will also need a t-ring adapter for the tube.

I've always wondered how 'the average Joe' gets these kind of pictures.
I'd love to try and get some myself but I'm not a 'tographer and spending lots of cash (well, ANY to be honest) is not an option. We do have, what I THINK is a bridge camera, we got it a few years ago but we always end up just using our phones because we have them with us, it's probably a crap camera to be honest.
However, we live in the sticks and there is little to no light pollution so there is a CRACKING view from our place, when they sky is clear and the moon is not in the sky it looks like this:

I was coming back from the pub a couple of months ago on my own and it was just stunning, I had to keep stopping and looking up, so when I got home I grabbed Grunty and we took the camping chairs and a few beers up in to the fields and we just sat there for 2 hours staring at the sky, watching the satellites cruise effortlessly across the sky and spotting the shooting stars.
We bought Grunty's dad a scope years ago, I'm dying to borrow that off him and get it on a tripod when the sky is like that again but you just can't book the weather can you GRRRR
Bit too far away from me LPH otherwise that would have been awesome! Just need some clear skies to get the 'scope out

do you know what... I've just seen the T piece.... And I'm kicking myself as 3 years ago I had one given but didn't know what the heck it was... so kept it for a year and then chucked it.....
I feel empty inside......... :(
Got some moon shots but they arr hazy. Need to process the raw files and will post up. Adapter works a treat!

I'd love to get a telescope and do some astro photography but I've run out of credits with Mrs BP for spending!
I did manage two Milky Way shots in Lyme Regis this summer.

There was LOTS of light pollution though.
Pete ;)
Please bear in mind that this is the first attempt and it was hazy. Still unsure of what settings to use so it was in manual and RAW. 25mm wide view eyepiece loaded in the tube.

That looks good! I tend to use the ten second timer to negate camera shake.
Here's mine with the old 60D with 70-300 Canon.

I took one the other night with my Sigma 120 - 400 lens. I did sharpen it slightly with Photoshop, but I am amazed at the clarity. after all of the failed attempts I've had.
