I've just broken down in the lidl car park in coventry, just off the A45. Is there someone that can please help me?! I think tye rectifier has blown. I'm desperate to get going again as I'm on my way to go and live with my girlfriend in Castleford...

My dad's driving 2 hours to come and pick me up.

I think the rectifier may have blown but it hasn't fried the battery and i did manage to bump start it twice, then the rev counter stopped working, now it won't even bump...

Also, as of yesterday it's been backfiring more or less every second or two on idle... I don't know if it's related but it seems like it could be

Well at least you're getting sorted by your Dad

Yeah, I'm now where I need to be but now I have to diagnose the problem and sort it out. It's something electrical, I know that much

Sorry you've had a bit of a mare!

First off charge the battery back up to full. There's no point testing anything else when that's flat. Refit it and use a multi-meter to measure DC Voltage across the terminals at engine stopped, idle - lights on & off, 5,000 rpm lights on & off.

Report back and we'll go from there.

yep do what Jambo has said and it'll let you know if the rectifier is good or not

Hi,
I don't have a charger unfortunately.. As it stands I have 11.6v on the battery and it won't jump or bump start so I can't test anything else. I'm completely stumped, I can do the mechanical stuff but I've never been good with electrics

Get a charger :). I think lidl have a bike event running currently so may have some. Usually around 13 quid. Well worth it!

Yeah, I'll invest in a charger. There are too many times where I've needed one and put it off...

Ooooh. The irony.

Didn't you pick one up while you were in their car park? You might even have been able to find somewhere to plug it in!!

I didn't know they had them... And I had loads of bags strapped to the back of the bike which I didn't want to leave out in the car park.
The irony is just so painful haha
