The national Castle Combe BikeSafe event is back for the 12th April 2014, and there will be at least 1 SV650 there.

Details (https://www.bikesafe.co.uk/Police-Forces/National-BikeSafe-Show-Track-Experience-.aspx).

If you don't fancy the track or the assessed rides then there are some show stands and other things around including a few hundred bikes. I shall be taking part, hope to see others there...

Book early (now) to avoid disappointment. You will not get on the track if you turn up on the day. There is also a strict noise limit for the track. The value of your investment may go up and down. The weather will be British.

I'll be there, will keep an eye out for you Steve :).

Don't think I'll be on the assessed ride/track, although I wish I was as it's a bargain IMO! Will defo pop along for a mooch round the stalls etc.

I might come along, one won't be partaking as one cannot pass the ridiculous noise regs.

And my riding is ****ing awesome anyway so don't need the advanced riding milarky

Yeah I gotta feeling my cbr won't pass the db test with the yoshi fitted...

Any idea how they measure the db, distance position etc?
And do you need full leathers for the track? Remember there was some debate last year.

Sneak through and have your bike noise tested before you sign in and pay. That's what I did last time so it didn't cost me anything.

Every other track with a non road legal can my thunderace come's out at 98db and castle combe failed it on the standard can.

Taken from their website:
http://www.castlecombecircuit.co.uk/trackdays/bikeinformation.asp

The noise limit for the day is 105 db(A), which is measured at ½ metre from the exhaust outlet at ¾ maximum revs. It is the rider’s responsibility to ensure that their machine is within this limit. All machines are sound tested prior to going out on the circuit. In the event of a machine failing the sound check, then the rider will be entitled to a 75% refund. If you are unsure if your bike will get through the noise test (i.e. if it is fitted with an after market exhaust system), then you can always come over to get the bike noise tested prior to booking a place.

Riders need to have a full face helmet, and either one or two piece leathers. If they are two piece, then these must zip together either fully or partially. Boots and gloves must be of leather construction and carry no metal studs. It is strongly recommended that additional back protectors be worn whilst on the circuit.

This is for trackdays, not sure if bikesafe will have to comply with this?

I think the noise limit is lowered at weekends as that's what most track's with the "whinging public problem" do for trackdays.

When you say lowered, do you mean lower db level ie harder to pass? Or lower the level of strictness, ie easier to pass?

Wideboy

Lower the db level. Noisy days are on week days at most places when all the locals are living at their "work" home's in London.

Noise, yes. Its not their fault.

Leathers, not so sure. I think you will get away with full textiles, but check. If you turn up in shorts, t-shirt, flip-flops, and an open face helmet you wont get on the track and I doubt the Police will allow you out with them and you must be assessed by them before the track session.

I've booked the bikesafe - not fussed about the trackday for now

Will either baffle the JCE or refit the stock exhaust, 107dB according to JC, all I know is it's not subtle and there's plenty of guys who've missed trackdays even with the baffle...

While not full proof, those of you with an Android phone can download a dB noise tester from PlayStore to check your bikes beforehand. While not 100% accurate, it will give you a good indication if you're likely to get a pass for the circuit. I was up at the sprint there this weekend and tried it on a competitors car - phone said 95 and actual reading from scrutineers came out at 98

I will look to book once I know my brakes are working properly. I'm thinking just the assessment rather than the track day too

Not many phones have a microphone capable of 105db. Mine tops out at 95. Unless my bike is the same noise level at idle and at 7k.

squirrel_hunter

Yeah I plan to get the bike tested in advance. I've also been given a little tip of how to quiet it down if needed. But that wont work for a SV650...

we have just ordered a db checker of ebay, just waiting for it to arrive, only £15 so worth it to save a wasted trip if your not sure

Arsebiscuits. I've got my dates wrong. Thought this was on the 19th. Thanks to The Lone Wolf for the heads up.

My problem is the TZR has its MOT in the morning and the plan was to do this on that. So do I risk it on the TZR fresh MOT and no shakedown ride with no advance noise test, or take the TZR for its MOT and then take the SV down on a standard exhaust?

Bit of a request. Simon will be there for TBE displaying his adapted bike but has no helpers, he's not riding but will need help getting the bike off the trailer pluss getting on and off.

I'll stop by and help out and keep him company between the rides and stuff. But I won't be there until the afternoon and I have the ride/ track booked for 2:00. But while I'm free I can help.

Wideboy
10-04-14, 02:14 PM
Well, I suppose he can't too be picky.

Whats your excuse?

Wideboy

I've had chores arranged for me :-(. Apparently its not acceptable to go 2 months without a floor in the bathroom. I don't see the issue.

If I'm there today I'll be caging it with the wife 'n' kids. The RR is still with the ins company so a nose round the trade stands etc will be it for me today unfortunately.

Grant66
12-04-14, 09:20 AM
I'll be there around 2-ish in the cage. I'll keep an eye out for you all, should I wear a carnation or carry a copy of the times so you'll recognise me?

dkid
12-04-14, 09:54 AM
Haha yes do! I'll be there about 11:30

Knee sliders in action :-o looking like another poor attendance for tomorrow. Ronnie is otherwise engaged and Stu has...

Wait for it...

A broken bike. Although he does have some nice leathers to wear whilst he watches it being repaired.

Anyone know what the big charity ride is all about today? Just snatched a quick hour out with the wife on the loan bike and stumbled across hundreds of bikes in cheddar on an organised ride. Great sight!

I've just woken up so todays out. Not heard of any ride in Cheddar either.

While I think of it I didn't see Simon or a TBE stand there. I was a little late getting down and was put straight through the Bikesafe and track. By the time I was finished everyone was packing up.

Looks like it was this...

Loads of yellow ribbons on bikes so this had to be the same rideout I reckon. Was a Glastonbury meet. Looked like it would have been a good day out to be fair.
