and who the fook is going to admit to an accident where no claim was made?

If you don't they may find out about it as the claim will be in the database. If they find it after the poly concepts they could cancel it or load the premiums and charge an extra fee leaving you worse off.

"Where no claim was made"

Fook all to find on their database...

No claim under your policy but may be on anothers. Plus the police incident reports feed in to the same database as far as in aware.

So in this instance there could well be a trace if it. Granted it won't always be but I always think, what's the point.

If you lie and get found out your details could be flagged and you could be penalised long after any claim would have been declarable.

What sort of crash are we talking about here... going through someone's hedge or crashing into a bus stop full of nuns.

Where's the burden of proof here and what detail is kept and whose info? Would be good to know.

Not 100% sure to be honest.

I think it links info from the MIB to services such as the MID but no idea how much of what info it would contain.

I know they do it as my insurer callede about a claim which wasn't disclosed. Was an honest mistake, I thought I declared both but as the guy woke me up while I was ill i forgot one. Honest mistake so no penalty

Anything they do hold will be in accordance the DPA '98.

The only thing is that there will be info in there that would be excluded from certain aspects of DPA if it's in relation to crime.

That probably doesn't help you at all, sorry.

By avoiding a claim through my policy and going direct to the third parties insurance company, I hope I have minimised the effect on my future premiums. Don't think there was a better course of action unless the TP had offered to pay cash without involving the insurance but that was never an option here.

You shouldn't need to declare it to your insurance as it's not a claim made on your policy and you weren't involved.

I would even mention it come renewal time.

Probably incorrect.

Most insurance companies ask "any claims, losses or incidents fault or not" or similar wording. There was a claim and there was an incident.
And he was involved, it was his bike.

Incorrect, you are required to declare at fault or not. MIB holds records of incidents and persons/ vehicles involved

He's right you know.

You need to declare any claim, fault or not, whether the claim was actually made on your own policy or not. If a claim has been settled by an insurer it should be on the CUE database managed by MIB.

Technically you should disclose all accidents/incidents even if no claim was made although pretty much no one actually does that.
