View Full Version : My old z750 back on the road. Needs some carb work

Anyone recommend a carburettor reconditioning firm or a source of cheap-ish new carbs? The old z goes alright and handles pretty well despite my guessed geometry but could really do with some renewed carbs or flatslides to get it running right.

(Cant help with ya question but....)
thats a nice looking bike from 'my era'.......VERY NICE......
"Guessed geometry"........ you talking swing arm/shock angles?? Would love something like that, I'd have that shape painted in the old Moriwaki colours (Croz (see my sig picture)/Gardener etc).........how old/year is it??
(How come 4-1 comes out on 'wrong' side???)

I put Zephyr forks on it and dropped them through the yokes by 5mm. The rear shocks are a tad longer too. With the change in wheel and tyre sizes it was all a bit guesstimated but it seems to handle okay so far. I guess i'll only really know when the sun comes out properly! Wilbers shocks are superb. I expected the forks to be too soft but so far they feel okay. I've got some spare side panels and a spare tank so I can swap colours on a whim. Once they're painted I'll post another picture!

Tried ultrasonic cleaning the carbs? Gets a lot more crap out of them than just blowing them through.

Ha ha! Dymags? I wish. Nope they're bog standard Kawasaki wheels but still considerably lighter than the original 1981 style. It actually steers really well.

Colours are likely to be black and silver but I've changed my mind several times already...

I had the carbs cleaned up by someone with an ultrasonic bath. They reckon that everything is pretty well worn and near the end of its useful life. I've no experience myself so I'm taking their word for it!

Love that exhaust... Those wheels weigh a ton though!
