In Thailand (ok), hope it doesn't bring too many bad memories back for some! :-)

In order I found them:

Snake (think it was a young one, too frisky to catch)
http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb366/supersoniccow/8B8C8A82-461D-4CC7-95D0-7570715A2FB1.jpg (http://s1202.photobucket.com/user/supersoniccow/media/8B8C8A82-461D-4CC7-95D0-7570715A2FB1.jpg.html)

Scorpion as yet unidentified (shout if you know) but guide said it was very poisonous. Rather difficult to pick up but did so eventually.

Leaf insect. Looked like it had seen better days having lost a leg but it seemed pretty active.

Failed to get photos of either the praying mantis or mango snake I found. Shame.

Sorry for all of the spiders, but they are my passion.

Nice one Jayne. I have some huntsman and whiptails on my other camera, will upload those when I'm back.
Looks like you were more successful than I was.
Wtf is in picture 4??

Oh, did see a sun bear which was good. Didn't get a photo - he was running away at quite a pace!

I went on a mini beast safari on the advice of the park rangers son and found loads. There is another load of photos, but because I love spiders, you can guess what most of them are! It is fantastic out there, I would love to see a scorpion, although the word is that the smaller the pincers, the more potent the venom!

On my next trip I really want to see some of the Golden Orb spiders, some of them grow so large that they can take small birds.

Photo four was some kind of wood louse, but was really hard to see among the leaves.

I love Thailand been a few times now. The last trip we stayed on Koh Jum (Pu) which hasn't long since had permanent electricity. The island has various snakes, spiders and monitor lizards that I wanted to see. Spent 4 days there and saw nothing more than geckos, crabs and a fruit bat! Didn't want to leave though.

I stumbled across a poisonous snake in a cave over there then had to swerve on the bike to avoid another. Scorpions are about the only creatures I'm not keen on, I've yet to come across any in my Thai trips thankfully.

I wish there had been some kind if night safari where I was.
The guys were pretty good at pointing stuff out to me when they realised I was interested but I think there was a lot more to see than I did actually see.
Had a very funny moment when a pretty large gecko fell from the roof on to the table (missing a cup of tea by an inch or do) making a large slapping noise before running off.
Nice people tho.

I went off on my own having been assured that there were no poisonous snakes on the site. I found a beautiful snake and when I showed the picture to Mr Bao, he asked if I had picked it up. Thankfully I had not because the animal turned out to be rather dangerous!

Wandering off on my own meant that I could quietly seek out creatures, taking my time and looking in dark places, this is how I found so many spiders. Also hunting at night meant that I could use my head torch to spot the glinting eyes in the grass. It was quite a thing to realise that every reflected light (and there were hundreds) was a delicate and occasionally huge spider.

We also went on a walk into the rain forest along the main paths and saw nothing but a couple of macaques and snake for the whole trek. Wandering around the nature reserve on Mr Bao's site allowed me to see more animals in thirty minutes than we saw all day on the trek.

Am liking this thread very much! Lovely shotsNothing to contribute but now subscribed :) Jayne, is that some sort of phosphorescent damselfly in your shots? Or just the flash bouncing off the wing scales?

It really was that colour and fast asleep on that leaf when I found it. I saw several of them in the region, but this is the only one I managed to get a picture of. One of the others that I really wanted to get a picture of was about four inches long and bright red, however I could not get close enough to get a good picture.

The big toad was easy to find because we followed the noise of its calls and it was so loud, it also had no fear of us and pretty much ignored us as we took its photo. The Banded bull frog that we found in our hut was a lovely and would just crawl in, settle in the corner and go to sleep.

We also spent some time on Ko Phra Thong and saw one Hornbill and lots of Hermit crabs, one of whom nipped me because I annoyed it! Swimming on the reef was like a scene from Finding Nemo and absolutely beautiful.

I have come to the conclusion that I am one of those increasingly mental old ladies who likes animals more than people! :why:

Last ones from me (unfortunately whiptails, crested lizards and cashew nuts didn't come out), but here are a couple of huntsman spiders:

They are exquisite, lovely animals and lightning fast when startled. The top photo really shows how large the mandibles are, I bet that she has some bite on her. I love spiders and these two are beautiful, the second one looks like she is carrying an egg sack with her, I saw one preparing and then laying her eggs, but she was right up in the rafters of our hut so I could not get a good look.

Thank you for sharing.

Not got any good pictures but just remembered when we went to Koh Samui we did the boat trip to Ang Tong Marine Park (the place that is the real location for the Beach in the book) and we saw a pink dolphin. Didn't even know they existed until then.
