Standing in the teabay in work today I noticed a bottle of White Musk had a wee sniff and was immediately transported back to being 18 & being in Kilmarnock with a lovely young lady :)

It started a discussion on how smells evoke strong memories, so what aromas bring back memories for you guys?

Tomatoes

A quick sniff reminds me of my Grandfathers greenhouse, happy days.

I prefer the smell of 'White Linen' that's the smell of a few happy Saturday nights :smt054

Ha! Yorkies veggie fat van... always makes me want fish and chips when ever he's arriving/leaving.

Not so much a memory associated with it but my mood genuinely improves when I smell chopped timber.

Grandads shed was no ordinary shed. For a start it was a stripped out railway carriage in a 30's terrace suburban garden. It had tools of every shape and size, a lathe; pillar drill and old radio sets, mice and spiders. It was out of a movie.
The smell of Swarfega can transport me 50 years into the black and white days in a flash.

There's a smell that can only be found in a continental kitchen, be it here or abroad.

It's like the smell of pea and ham soup and jam making, with a hint of vinegar and vinyl table cloth....with the occasional whiff of tomatoes straight from a greenhouse.

It's not often I come across this indescribable smell, because these days houses don't have a pantry and folk aren't so adventurous with cooking.
Takes me back to my grandparents house when we were kids.

I intend to replicate this in my next home :-D

Wrights Coal Tar soap reminds me of my granddad as it's what he used to wash his hands after we'd been out in the garden when I was a child.

The hotel lobby in Chiang Mai we always stay in has a really distinctive pleasant smell that as soon as I get there makes my body and brain slip into holiday mode.

Hugo Boss In Motion aftershave is worn by someone I'm very fond of and if ever I smell it I think of him and smile.

Some days at work we get a mixture of the pastry chef baking fresh scones for afternoon tea and the ground staff mowing the outfield - now if that isn't the smell of long summer days I don't know what is.

The smell of home made fresh baked bread takes me back to my teenage years when i went to my mates house and his mum was always baking. She used to always make one loaf for everyone to pick at and it always looked like a flock of birds had been attacking it.

Good post..! There's loads for me, smell is such a strong sense and triggers many memories.

1: Sun baked concrete on the estate I grew up on, long hot summers, then the rain falling on the concrete.
2: Cut grass, again in summer
3: Old spice after shave left lingering in the bathroom from when my Dad used to leave for work before we got up.
4: Stale beer early morning in old fashioned proper pubs when they opened for business at 11.
5: 2 stroke from racing RD350LC when I believed I could be a racer :-p
6: Marigolds (plants) from playing in the parks in London when I was a kid before plant beds used to get vandalised.
7: Meat pies, larger, trains, from travelling around the country watching football.
8: My kids as babies
9: Boxing Gyms
10: The sweet smell of victory, haven't smelt that for a bit :-/

My 3 favourite smells that transport me back are;-

Fern's - spent all my childhood playing soldiers in the woods at the back of our estate.:rambo:

Damp - my Papa's shed, many happy hours playing in there.:p
