I love this time of year because I can have a bunch off daffodils in my office for £1. Such lovely sunny blooms for so little expense.

So dear org, what other little joys can we still enjoy for a pound or less, and I don't mean free things like hugs or blackberries from the hedgerows in autumn, but the things that in a society where everything is going up in price, there are still a few items that cost little in comparison to the pleasure they bring.

Mine are...

Bunches of daffodils

100g bags of Cadbury mini eggs on offer in Tesco

A go on the bike racing game on Southend sea front as I can do 150mph, crash all I like and still walk away unharmed and unarrested

Personally I'd go with this for most fun for £1

Although thinking about it none of them would actually need a coin in once you complete the circle.

And there was me thinking Wideboy's prices had gone up.

Been giving this some cogitation time on the old noggin (it is Friday and I'm already in weekend mode) and my best happiness for £1 that I've come up with is likely changing the £1 into 2p pieces and playing the one armed bandits and coin push machines in an arcade.
Probably mainly due to nostalgia than the actual enjoyment gleaned from it now of course but that doesn't really matter.

It'd be an interesting concept if happiness could be empirically measured and quantified so that you could accurately give a ratio of happiness gained from a certain expenditure. Obviously it'd be different for every person as the amount of happiness I'd get from a pair of 1D tickets would be negative but a fan of them would obviously be ecstatic.

Interesting thought LPH, might have to consider this more for purchases, I already do to some degree but working out enjoyment and duration against price makes some purchases a no brainer (like an iPad for my wife, the amount of use and fun she has had out of it mean that even if it were twice the cost, it'd have been a bargain in reality)

This is true, I thought £60 was quite a lot to spend on a plastic ride on motorcycle a few years ago for my nephew but he has ridden it every day until he finally out grew it (when I bought him a larger one) so the cost per mile on that would be tiny and the fun he's had on it immense. Some of the best money I ever spent. On the flip side, the £60 I spent on a pair of shoes that I subsequently discovered look lovely but I can hardly walk in them (very high heels) and they kill my feet so they inevitably get taken off after 5 minutes, well, I should never have bought them. Stupid me.

Poundland Porn.

Yes, you read that right. Pornography from Poundland, on DVD, for £1.

It used to be the star prize at my locals pub quiz. I may have been on the winning team more than once…

Pound for Pound.... My SV. Was a bargain when I bought it, still puts a huge smile on my face.

On the cheaper scale, sending or receiving a postcard.

Is that to go with the rest of the stuff bought from poundland?

Probably. Without the lube, I've heard the creme eggs are very difficult to....., never mind;)
