Is there anyone who works, or knows someone who works in the insurance industry, who wouldn't mind being asked a few questions? My company is potentially looking to insure something a bit unusual, and we are not really sure where to start, I remember a couple of orgers mentioning that they work in the industry.

It is not complicated or difficult to get your head around, certainly at a high level, but I don't know of this being done before and we would really appreciate being able to ask a few questions on where to start and what information we'll need to get together to work with someone on this. It's to do with a new line of business, so I don't really want to post any details in public at this stage.

Many thanks OMO.

If I remember rightly, Hiscox (http://www.hiscox.co.uk/) insure just about anything.

Remember Lloyds of London specialise in hard or difficult to insure items. Things like spacecraft, satellites, sportsmens limbs, famous people etc.

I guess it depends on the value of the item. But that is where i would start.

Thanks guys. Hadn't thought of approaching Hiscox. Might give them a try.

Lloyds of London is just a market place, we'd need to contact one of the syndicates (IIRC that is what the individual members are called). It would be much better to get a contact with one of them rather then cold call, since we also need a bit of back and forth defining the terms.

Brokers list for Lloyds.

Try the one closest to you? face to face often helps. I used to work in these markets, so know them quite well.

Ahh Bonza, Cheers AD. Couldn't find that before.
I'm in London, so there are plenty to speak to.

Is there much way to choose between them? given 80% of them are in London, or would you just pick three at random and see what they say?

They all specialise in specific areas. I'm not sure who does what, but one will be able to point you in the right direction.
