I've recently installed a summer house in my garden to use as a cinema/ chill out room, thought some of you might be interested in a few pics I took along the way.

Wood treatment took longer than the build and cost £140 for the treatment...

Also built myself a fortress of a shed, using an overlapped corner style the same as the summer house.

Still a few bits to do on this so I'll post a few pics once it's finished.

How strong is that overlap corner style?

I am looking to do a conversion of my "gazebo" (6 4" uprights supporting a 16'x8' tiled roof) I have been tempted to create a 3" frame, clad the outside in 22mm tanalised fill the void with polystyrene slab and then clad the inside with a finished plywood.

Tim, it's very strong, the problem I had is the timber (44mm thick larch tongue and groove) varied in size, (thickness and width) so couldn't make the joints as tight as I would've liked.
I've also fixed some 3 inch arris rail timber on the inside corners, that made it even stronger.

I should add, I bought the summer house as a kit, but didn't order the whole kit, I put my own floor in and changed a couple of things I didn't like.

Nope, my garden has no rear access, my bikes are in my front garage, this is only for my garden stuff and mtb, I mainly built a hd one as I'm sick to death of cheap stuff not lasting, this cost me about £480 in materials alone but if I'd made this 5 years ago, I wouldn't be replacing the POS I had.

The checquer bord look is great, even if not intentional
Are the kits Ok for a keen diy bod

I should clarify, the shed I designed and built from scratch, took 3/4 of a day just to do the halving joint cut outs, it's DIY possible but if you've not got a decent chop saw, it would take a while.

The summer house kits on the other hand are easy, it's all just like a Lego kit really.
I got mine from www.gardenbuildingsdirect.com as I'd fitted one for a customer before.

I shouldn't have shown this to my wife - she wants one of those summerhouses. :)

Actually, I quite fancy building one of them - looks reasonably DIY-able. Did the kit need much adjustment/correction?

SP1, just looking at that shed site, but not knowing anything about sheds (other than that ours is at a wonk and I suspect falling down), which are the best quality/most sturdy ones to be looking at?

As for your summer house/cinema room, that looks great! Was there power already going to the place or did you have to do that as well (or have I identified a flaw in your plan? :-) )

thanks

Main thing Tam, get base level, it's basically a kit, start off level and just every few rows just check its staying level and plumb, persuade it where necessary :)

I went for the thickest wall they do, 44mm thick, they start at 28mm I think, but my attitude was, I'm spending a lot of money, I want it to last.
No permanent power as yet, it's next job, I've bought the stuff, just need a spare day to do it, putting a garage consumer unit in then armoured cable back to fuse box.
