View Full Version : Bank holiday weekend

In the vague hope that :

1. Somebody reads this section.

2. Anybody is available.

3. The weather is reasonable.

4. Stu's bike isn't broken.

Is there any interest in a rideout on any day of the coming weekend?

Me and Mr LPH are staying in the New Forest from Friday. We're bringing his KTM and the car so I can go pillion. We might be up for a rideout if there's one being organised within a ride-able start distance and the weather is being kind. Happy to have a local show us some good roads/pubs/ice cream selling establishments.

I'll likely get smothered in overtime this weekend, just like the chocolate scene in Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory. Just with more Oompa Loompa's.

Bit far away I think. :-(

So it's looking like 4:

Sunday would be best for me as it is warmer than Saturday and I am riding back to Kent on Monday.

I don't mind any route, anything through Mid-Wales will be nice.

I'll also play TEC to keep Stu from getting lost

Grant66

where we meeting to start this off?

If we're off to Wales, somewhere near the M4 on the Welsh side?

If we're going via merthyr, there is a Mcdonald's at the services. I'll edit this in a bit when I find the details.

:)

What about here? (https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/McDonald%27s+Longwood+Drive/@51.8052879,-3.4017236,10z/data=!4m5!1m2!2m1!1smcdonalds!3m1!1s0x0:0x9ebf4021 224db3d7)

Head up A470, A4215, A40 & A483 to Builth Wells. Then Rhayader, Newtown & back to Builth. Head back south via Abergavenny.

That's just a suggestion, if anyone has a route they'd like to go or can suggest better roads...

or this one (https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/McDonald%27s+Restaurants+Ltd/@51.6046366,-2.9312268,14z/data=!4m5!1m2!2m1!1smcdonalds!3m1!1s0x0:0xa8f1c7b5 a772efcb) and take a more scenic route to Merthyr.

EDIT: Just heard from Ronnie, they are meeting in Brecon at 11. So we could meet at the Newport MC'ds at 10 we could join up with the welsh lot. Them welsh lads know some good roads :)

Hey fella's, about 5 of us confirmed for a Rideout in Wales so you're welcome to join. Of course, there's likely to be quite a few others out so will see what the final numbers are tomorrow. Meeting point is (as usual for us) Terry's burger van just past Story Arms in Brecon @ 11am - any of you guys who ride through Brecon should know this - but happy to pick you up at the McD's Grant mentioned just off the A470 junction coming out of Cardiff.

As for route? Not sure yet, but is likely to go over some cracking mountain roads and fast A' Roads, possibly towards the coast. Typically its about 150miles there and back to the Brecon meeting point, so obviously for you guys it will be a little bit more. However, you can cut the ride short whenever you like and take the straight route back if you need to make time. The final route will be discussed at the meeting point tomorrow.

What else? The Guy that leads our rideouts - we call him "The Chairman" - rides a BMW RT something or other. But do not be fooled, he can get a shift on if necessary. More importantly, he's experienced and knows more routes than a Sat Nav.

We use the drop-off system and have regular stops, at least 4 times during the journey, so no-one gets left behind and appointed TEC means you can ride at your own pace within the group. Here's a short vid of last week's ride to Ponderosa Cafe:

Well I know at least 1 nutter that Hovis use to ride with. Obviously never met Hovis, but from the stories I've been told he was a bit of a 'Character'... ok, "nutter" himself. ;)

Who is the nutter you know? There are several I know which are all amazing bike riders, but, still nutters.

Hovis was a character and was unique, but, there are many stories for Hovis. A film of his life would be a big seller just for the incidents with the Org, let alone SWMC and SWSB, lol

Haha, yeah I have heard that one.

Don't think SWSB is still going as some of the guys have left etc etc, so this is a more irregular group of mixed riders, from newbies to bimblers. But of course Nutty does the marking en route, which keeps him happy.

Ok, hopefully see you guys tomorrow. If not, have a good one.

I bet it does, he was always a speed daemon when I knew him.

The group was always a mix and I think the fact it existed when it did was more luck then judgement.

If I don't see you on this ride I'll be sure to pop up on one during the summer, gonna be popping back for the roads around here quite often and hopefully gonna be living in Bristol in 6 or so months, so, next year I'll drag Stu out most weekends and I am sure we'll get Grant to tag along

Should be fine mate. 45 minutes is enough time to get to Terry's as long as everyone's fuelled up. From Brecon we'll probably do a petrol stop after about 50 miles, so you'll need enough to get from Bristol > Cardiff (30ish miles) > Brecon (30ish miles) + 50. So 110 miles before the next fill for you boys. I reckon fill up in Cardiff but we'll need to leave Cardiff by about 20 past 10.
