Have to confess to having been browsing forums for the last 40mins. Watching this ad has gave me the shove... I'm off out on my bike :)
What a load of pretentious bull carp

Double irony, the first person to comment on it met his other half on here.

Yeah, I know, but the premiss of the video is you are more likely to bump in to the girl of you dreams walking down a random street, settle down and have 2.4 perfect children than you are ****ing about on the internet.
I think I've met more people through motorcycling and especially being on here than I would have otherwise. Even this weekend I spent time with my cousins husband for the first time (I've met him a few times, but didn't really get a chance to speak to him). Chat comes much easier when you have something like biking in common.

How would this video reach it's target audience without putting it on social media?
The second half of the video may be a bit sh*t with it's meet a girl become a grandad scenario, but the first half carries a valuable message IMHO.
Well done cheesypeeps for taking the positive out of it, your glass is half full not half empty, and unlike those who can do nothing but post negative criticism, you have a life! :-)

Is your glass half empty and you have no life then? You used social media to forward this video about social media being a life sapping vehicle then used social media to express your view.

Why do you feel the need to be so negative and disparaging towards someone who simply posted something on the internet? Do suffer from depression?

I was pointing out the irony in the situation I dont see how that makes me a potential depression sufferer. I will agree social media is too big and platforms such as twitter are ****ing life sapping (not that I'm on it might I add) but not everyone uses facebook ect to post duck face pictures of themselves asking their "internet friends" to comment on it.
I also suspect that he did the video to gain some sort of internet celebrity status or for some personal gain as he could have done some kind of sound bite rather than having a camera pointing at himself.
Maybe I'm very sceptical of people but this is the internet after all.

Seems to me your posts on this thread are aimed at me, not just the irony in the video.
Shame that people have to do that to strangers on the internet. Still more to be pitied than scolded I suppose, people only make themselves look bad when they do it.
Anyway, I have a way of dealing with those kind of people - stop replying, they can't keep writing posts that have a pop at themselves (unless they really are mentally ill), so see ya! :smt039

Sorry but how is any of those quotes bar the last one aimed at you? I was pointing out the irony of HIM posting the video as in your original post you made no opinion on what you thought of it so I'm amazed at how you managed to put those together.
My third post is aimed at you as you insinuated that myself and SVNewbie had no life for pointing out the irony.
Also aren't you ralph? Who had a paddy and left this social media platform because no one would agree with you only to return to this social media platform under another name pretending to be someone else...And my glass is half empty.

Just to respond to one of Wideboys points for the benefit of others.
My username did indeed used to be -Ralph-, like many others who have changed username/account over the years.
I don't recall having a paddy or leaving the forum, I think a post count of over 200 for the last year demonstrates that.
I did however make a conscious habit of breaking the forum habit and using it much less for some of the reasons described in this video. It struck a chord with me which is why I posted it.

A Thread started with an ironic video being negative about the increasing use of technology results in the original poster telling other people they're being negative about the video? all the while using the very technology it's complaining about?
If we all disappear up our own backsides in a couple of pages time don't say you weren't all warned.
Now I'm off to smash some textile mills in solidarity.
Seems one is able to change username but there is still no checkbox for multi-quote pomposity. Maybe a change request to admin is required?

I was always under the impression that they didn't want to encourage it.
Can you imagine the depths of discussion if it was EASY (easier, rather) to multiquote?
its everyone's choice whether to use social media or not, going down the pub, a bike meet, having a barbie and inviting guests round could constitute as social media but just not electronic.
personally i think that it can be a good thing. not everyone has friends and some people are 'socially awkward' so electronic social gathering places are good for these people. it might just make their day more bearable and less likely to top themselves.
no i have not watched the link posted as i fear that it will just be another one of those 'go do something less boring instead' kind of things.
unless the internet suddenly goes down (which might just happen) then electronic gathering places/social media are here to stay.
yes if your sad enough to be at the mercy of your electronic device and let it run your life then that's up to you. i don't see anything wrong with it, people like to talk and show off it's human nature.
i have met a lot of people on this very forum that i would classify as friends. if i had not joined this forum i would not have met them. what they think of me is another story... lol
so carry on dong what you do as its your life but just remember there are other people in the world who might no agree with everything you say, try to be positive and help others to help yourself. manners cost nothing. better to smile than frown. laughter is the noise of happiness....
i love you all :-)

I must admit I was a bit confused by all the words missing from these posts, but then I realised,
Americans don't get irony. ;)
Like everything else in the world, social media can be used as good or bad.
It's up to each individual on how they use it.
For me it has been just the opposite of the clip (although I do quite understand what he is saying).
Every person I've rode motorcycles with since 1999 is someone I've met through social media.
It's prompted me to get out and meet people from all over the US, Famous motorcycle racers and peronalities, friends from all over the world.
Even traveling 5000 miles to attend an AR and spend a full week in the UK meeting orgers and seeing some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.
Many things I've done, places I've been and friends I've met, all would not have been possible without social media.
Although I don't use it to hide away I do use it in another way too. LOL
I pretend to be busy on my mobile when I get that waitress at the local cafe' that always moans away about her life while I'm waiting on my food.
So's it's easily used either way to propel yourself out there into the world or to hide away and not have to deal with people face to face.
And some people start out as good and get overly addicted. Too much of a good thing and all that.
For now facebook seems to be replacing the telly as the new opium for the masses.
There'll always be something.
Hmmm.....makes you wonder how many other old orgers are lurking about under new names?
There are some I know.

As everything, used in moderation I think it's a good tool, without social media I'd never have met a lot of people I call friends, until I got a bike I'd never been on a forum before, I'm not the type who would just turn up to bike meets and start chatting with strangers, social media helps a lot.
The negative for me is how many people stare at their devices for way too long (myself included), I hate the fact we rely on them too much, we're addicted to them.
Although useful, I wish mobile devices/phone had never been invented, I'd have more time.

Not surprised mate. Everyone entitled to anonymity on the internet if they want it!
I posted for about 9 months without a cross word, trolling attempt or flaming attack from anyone. In fact as Fordward I'm pretty sure I've never had an issue on this forum, and they used to happen every week as Ralph! Funnily enough I post something for the first time after word gets out who Fordward is, and look what happens!
Same person, same opinions, different username. It was quite amazing what pre-conceptions people formed about a person they'd never met behind a forum username, just because they held strong opinions, and how people behaved completely differently when they thought they were talking to a newbie and someone different was quite remarkable.
I've broken the forum habit and probably won't post again for another few weeks, and I never get into any of the heavy debates on this forum anymore, just not worth the hassle, so the anonymity really doesn't matter anymore.

It's also amazing how you post the exact same thing on a different forum and it's received completely differently, here the reaction is what a load of carp and people don't like it, on this forum everyone thought it was great and agreed with it. Complete contrast

Alot of people have known you were ralph, its quite common knowledge and not hard to take a guess from alot of you posts.
No one had ago at you in this thread, you insulted myself and SVNewbie for no reason saying we had no life because we saw irony in some random blokes video, then you start saying i was aiming abuse at you when clearly I hadn't, then you run off crying saying you won't respond, now you're coming back and responding.
Now you're being ironic.

Wideboy, stop whining like a girl.
I didn't even mention you in the 'had no life' post, just like you say you didn't mention me in your first two either. Nor did I mention you in my reply to Bananaman.
You're bleating on like a girl all about stuff that you've decided in your own perception is about you, when your names never actually been mentioned once. And you accuse me of doing the same thing with your first two posts? - where's the irony there?
Drop it, there's nothing to be gained by bleating on about it. I'm replying to Bananamans post about people using different usernames, and talking about my first 9 months as a different username. It's nothing to do with you.

Personally I thought you were a **** as Ralph and Fordward based on your multi-quote pedantic posting and general holier-than-thou attitude. Never met you and highly unlikely to ever meet you which is fine by me.
