......gets round to Tilstons in Stockton on Sat 2 August.
I have 'shown interest' in the new V-strom 1000abs, how do these 'test days' pan out?? Is it a 20min group trundle around a set course or do I get out on my own fa an hour or so, so I can actually find out what the bike is all about/actually 'like' to ride??
Wanna ask you lot before I waste my time/Tilstons time if its a bit of a 'non-event'. Cheers.........
(not gonna book any other bike to try, (Suzuki) as just dont want a "four"......plus wanna try a big upright again, luv the SV1000........if/when I get one it'll be a "superbike" conversion 1st job!!!)

I did it last year in Chichester and it is exactly that "a 20min group trundle around a set course" with one of the Suzuki guys in front and another at the end of the group.

Was around 30 mins, it wasn't a slow ride; it was good fun but not a proper test because our freedom was 'limited'

Ta for that Popy, prob call in nearer the time and talk to sales person/book a "test"!!! 😜

Best thing to do it to go along for the group trundle and speak to the salesman after and say you're interested but want a longer ride. Hell book you in.

I reckon it would still be worth going even if a group session. Quite a few dealers don't offer test rides and you can find out a lot in 20 minutes in regard to engine feel, respinsem, fit etc.

I did a group test ride years ago on a 999, the guy let me go off and 'enjoy' the bike on a fast section. Was a lot of fun!!

I do love a dealer that let's you take the keys and says I'll see you in a couple of hours. Done that 3 times and twice I bought a bike.

Went to look at a MT09 6mth ago, (Tilstons) asked about demo bike, "ye no prob.....just prove you've got insurance to ride it".
Yes I've got insurance fa the SV1000, dont yhink it states 'any motorcycle not owned by the insured', I know my car ins dont state that any more!!
Teasdales, 'just leave me a copy of your licence'!!!!
Suzuki event?? Insurance?? 'll have to enquire!!!!

These events will be a small rideout group. Probably 2 or 3 from the dealership or supplied by Suzuki with around 6 people on tests. It will be about a 20 minute ride and about 15 miles long. It wont be a Superpole lap, nor will it be faster if you walked round. They have to cater for all abilities or lack there of. But it should be enough to give you an idea if you like the bike or not. From there talk to the dealer about a longer test ride if you require it.

The insurance aspect of it will be covered by Suzuki, but there will be an insurance excess that you will have to sign will be around £500 - £1000 to cover any mishaps while you're out there, so don't have any and you'll be fine. Remember to bring both bits of your licence with you. Book early to avoid disappointment though they often have room to allow you to just turn up on the day.

And I may have done more than one of these demo rides...

If it's out to do with tilstons it will be rubbish and well over priced. When I purchased a bandit some years ago they wouldn't budge on the rrp £4395. I got the same bike brand new with free alarm engine bars and smart water for £3299!!! Servicing was top prices too. I went to York Suzuki who are a sound bunch of blokes and about £40 cheaper. The ride was worth it.
I did buy a z750 off them (same price nation wide) and for warranty work it was as if I was asking them to pay for it out of their own pocket!!! Gary on parts is sound but the rest is utter tosh.

From A19 into town.....where is it?? (I know town centre fa driving.......)

When u hit the ring road round York from thirsk straight ahead then straight ahead at next few set of lights. Then it's just a left turn off this road direct to Suzuki York! Google map it. It couldn't be easier to find

So thats what a Guzzi dealer looks like! Rare up here nowadays this side of the country. :(

Been trying to get the little lady on a V7 but she prefers a Hinckley Bonnie. No amount of better vibes on the Guzzler talk is swaying her. :(

Talking to a (older) bloke at Scarboro on a V7, got shot of his Bonnie after 'endless problems' (spoke punctured front tyre twice, once at 70mph) cha ged to Guzzi.......no problems, loves it, the after sales (Teasdale-Thirsk) customer care/loan bike etc, poss under powered fa me tho!!??!!
(actually Triumph took it back!!!!!!! just remembered)

Dont think I'd take much persuading to move away from V-strom/SV1000 to either of these:

Boys day out!!!!
Me n niall_farley just got back from York......
Suzuki York couldn't be more different from Tilston's!!!!!
Crackin sales man, felt wanted/at home soon as we walked thru the door: Test ride/s?? No prob, ring day before: take it (new V-strom) half a day!! List price plus £2600 "touring kit" chucked in (big screen/panniers/top box etc)
Guzzi dealer came across pretty much same, Triumph dealer 'indifferent' n not too pleased when I said I liked the V-strom.......and a 1hr test ride limit!! Demo bike £1000 off list on Suzuki, same with Triumph and Guzzi!!!!
V-strom/Suzuki York DEFO got me licking my lips/booking test ride asap (new rad on SV)

The V-Strom is a lovely bike, you can ride it for hours and still be comfortable, definitely longer than the SV.

^ can get away with a couple of hours on the SV. Had to remind the 'Boy' that I'm 51, different generation, brought up on a completely different generation of bike, GSXRs etc feel like i'm balanced on top of a toy, I want an upright/tall bike again........something with a bit of 'road presence'........
