Good evening
As with all things now days there is a forum full of knowledgeable people and some not, so count me in for group 2 ;)
My name is Bryan, but prefer Bug. I am 38 and live in Harlow. I have had a licence for nearly 20 years but not had a proper bike until I bought Ninthbike's 04 pointy in blue last weekend. (Wife is still going about your dog)
The purpose of the bike is to commute into St. Paul's for work so cheaper and more fun than the tube. So after one week and 400 miles in I am enjoying biking again but with some questions and a growing shopping list. First on the list is a road hawk bullet camera for the cars and moped nutters.
I know they don't do a larger tank but happy with the 130-140 I am getting so far, but what is the sequence for the petrol light, am I correct in flashing then solid?
The next is bike cleaning and chain oiling, for the mileage how often am I looking at doing this to keep the bike in good condition from the road rubbish etc.
Cheers
Bug

dont mess about waiting on lights to tell you, fill up at 100 mile
fit a scottoiler and save yourself hassle
keep an eye on the oil. sv's dont like low oil levels.

+ 1 to a Scottoiler, it's great for commuting! Light flashes then goes solid, if I brim it I get about 186 miles until flashing and 210/220 until solid (don't see it often) riding style and route make a big difference so find out how far your bike will reasonably go and just stick to those fill ups on your route at the same intervals, that's what I do anyway!

Cheers will look into a oiler
Have always been more about miles than the light, just wanted confirmation, 3 days commuting is 120 so will be topping up every 2days probably to be safe
Now just looking for cleaning apart from the usual soapy water

Keep the chain oiled if you want it to last.Check engine oil level often especally at first so you know if it uses any.If you use it over winter acf50 and no cleaning is best.Clean it how you like in summer.

Welcome, and good choice of bike. Well, right colour and should have bought a curvy, but apart from that, they are great through London traffic when you get used to them.
You'll never keep the thing clean commuting through the winter in London. Not that I particularly tried, but in winter the roads are horrific, for salt and rubber getting all over your bike, and riding through the rain just makes it worse.

ride carefully and you should get about 120 to the tank. worse I have had is about 85.
a scott oiler is your best investment..

Ride even carefuller and 150 is a piece of wee wee.
Worst I had was 59 but that was on track thrashing it to within an inch of its life. I was trying to keep up with Dom Davis former British 500cc champion on a CBR600RR.
+10 for the scott oiler.

You obviously have a very different definition of "careful". I'm with Matt on that one, I've never even seen the light flash at less than 120 miles and once I discovered a strange extra gear for dual carriageways and motorways (6th I believe it's called) it's nearer 140-150 now.

Thank you all for your welcome
I am more confused today, got totally side tracked on miles went to see a friend and arrived at their home with 155 on clock, no lights flashing or solid. As I turned the bike back on the solid light came on but only for 4 seconds then off, straight to the garage and 11litres filled the tank. This is all of the learning curve of a new bike
11ltr means that there was 5-6ltr still in the tank as its a 17ltr tank but most people can only get 16ltr in.
the solid comes on for a second or two when first turn the key then goes off.
