Right folks

To help anyone wanting people to ride up with on the East coast.

Thanks Andrew

Well based on the advice on the last leg route starting just before Darlington heading up to the camp site here's what I am suggesting from Norwich, so based on others coming up from the South East we can adapt this to include those people with another meeting point between point A and B...obvious Norwich as a waypoint ain't gonna work but this route is a starting point for a bigger one covering all the requirements off once we know what they are.

Point B is a services point which I figure would be a good place for people to join the convoy but we really need to know who is heading up from the south west and how far a route needs establishing from, then we can figure how to join the dots and build up a nice convoy properly :)

If we can use google for planning this it would be best, we can then take google routes through Tyre and create what is needed for peoples satnavs etc...

So.....speak up and lets get planning

I'm good to meet at point B I think.

I'm probably the only one from the GM going this year so unless I tag along with the TV guys I'm ridin solo.

Is there a good straight route suitable for car and trailer?

kaivalagi

Nice boring roads....of course, just use the sat nav

As much as sat navigation never let and one down ;)
A1, Scotch corner then?
Oh should I bring spare oil for the pre ride check????

Should I rent the 3 bike trailer instead of using my one?

Probably wise. Yes.

Might be able to borrow a twin bike trailer if the other bod wants to trailer it up and down.
One bike on the trailer makes it a bit uneasy

Yep, that's the plan set off on Friday. Although perversely I will be in Liverpool until Thursday and it would make sense to ride my bike up on Sunday, and then travel cross country.

But I don't think my family would appreciate not seeing me for a week

I know......and although it says 2 hours more than the other route I bet I can get that down a bit, especially on those back roads. My only concern is fuel stops, I need to plan those well as I am not pushing a Rocket III! 6am start I reckon so I get some serious R&R in once at the camp/pub

Makes sense, I'll get this into BaseCamp over the weekend and add in the POI's for fuel stops then the jobs a goodun :)

So.......anyone else fancy making a proper trip of it...meet at Peterborough if you're no coming from Norfolk?

I'll be heading to Manchester on the way back, to stop over with Family, then I'll hit the peaks on the way back :)

Post the route up Mark, but I think I'll be doing the boring A1 straight up, just to get there a bit quicker for a bit more of a rest before the ride out.

Here's my itinerary from Thursday

Thursday -Liverpool - Home (4 wheels)
Fri - Home - AR14 site (SV)
Sat - AR rideout (Sv)
Sun - AR14 - home (Sv)

Its a lit of miles in a few days, hence my wanting to go the direct (but boring) way

Just had a good look and I think we would be better meeting somewhere like Wisbech, we'll get onto the A1 via the A17 from there, it's less of a detour for me and for you too. There's a Petrol station and a Morrisons supermarket on the A1101 so if we want to get some bits before heading on up north we can, here's the map link (http://goo.gl/maps/cujNp)

My A1 based route so far: linky (https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=NR7&daddr=Downham+Rd%2FA1122+to:Elm+High+Rd%2FA1101+to :52.9449936,-0.423375+to:Unknown+road+to:Unknown+road+to:54.606 4967,-1.6794324+to:54.7486863,-2.0101728+to:54.8964334,-2.2599339+to:B6305+to:Bellingham,+UK&hl=en&ll=53.891391,-0.98877&spn=3.865584,10.821533&sll=52.646396,0.409927&sspn=0.248715,0.676346&geocode=FfAqIwMdYX0UACkTolx8M-LZRzFi_nxbvCSuGw%3BFRK4IgMdhmIGAA%3BFU9gIwMd9p0CAA %3BFWHgJwMdMYr5_yl1cl6P6T14SDHvDqSGv09whA%3BFd-cLAMd_PHx_w%3BFRPAPgMdw5Dm_w%3BFc8mQQMdiXjm_ykNf1B zzIJ-SDEJEi51gl33lw%3BFZFlQwMdVFXh_ykz1xNwPjN8SDFtzdpEW W56rg%3BFTGnRQMdrYXd_ykJeUGLJ7d9SDGENiKNBkhvzg%3BF XxtRgMd5wDe_ynFZf2b07l9SDH76FVIZETpDw%3BFTR1SQMdtJ rd_ymhWdrCvJV9SDHArbQLCSQDPQ&oq=NR7&t=h&mra=mivtw&via=3&z=7)

Point C is the Wisbech meet I'm suggesting, point D the McD's and petrol stop to meet others heading north

Open to suggestions though :)

Martin, you prefer a more direct route like this considering your knee? I've discounted the other twistier route on the basis that it would be just about okay if I were on my mine not having to consider others (maybe...) but it's a lot more to do (2 hours more) and we have a long weekend ahead of it...

btw, maybe heading up on the SM-T yet....need to get a quote to extend my annual mileage on the rocket, done much more miles than I anticipated and I figure they'll royally screw me on adding some more as I get a good deal on the initial policy...

If we give ourselves an hour and a half to get to point D for midday we need to leave Wisbech at 10:30...so say 10am at point C? Assuming all this works for Martin too....

I figure we should arrive in Bellingham around 4:30pm with a fuel stop further on along with a short break

Knee and acupuncture. Kind of working Ok.
But like your thinking about the long weekend and just reduce time.
Paul has ipswich as his home town so that's a easy link for me. Then join up with the you.
I'm not taking much as Sarah is meeting up with me at Bo Rig.

Martin/Paul, I think we need to get a little creative on the route, taking on Bibio's suggestion for a start and maybe trying to remove other bits on the A1 too....that Biker's Britain route is tempting but it's another 2 hours on top of an already long day....what do you think? Shall I get busy over the next few days (in between Snetterton BSB :))

Kaiv, taking the road from Barnard Castle to Hexham that late in your journey is not a good idea. you will be tired/fatigued and those roads are not for the faint hearted at the best of times. my advice would be to take the A68 and take it easy.

my experience with long journeys (i do 300+ every sunday on small twisty roads) is that the closer you get to your end destination the more you want to push on and this is where mistakes happen. however if your a seasoned long journey rider then bash on :-)

maybe not the best route but the one that google maps throws up for me in ipswich is A14 & A1M,and even with the current road conditions its showing, rightly or not 5 hours 16min plus stops, and 320 miles for me from ipswich,in theory if i leave mine at 7am i could be at Demesne Farm Campsite by 1pm,dont really want to be in the seat till late evening, but apart from being very boring the A1/M cant be that bad on a bike, can it!!!

Fair enough Paul, just throwing options out there...we stick with the more direct route via the A1, filter through some traffic, and have a moderately tywisties bit that weas posted before, maps link (https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=NR7&daddr=Downham+Rd%2FA1122+to:Elm+High+Rd%2FA1101+to :52.9449936,-0.423375+to:Unknown+road+to:Unknown+road+to:54.606 4967,-1.6794324+to:54.7486863,-2.0101728+to:54.8964334,-2.2599339+to:B6305+to:Bellingham,+UK&hl=en&ll=53.891391,-0.98877&spn=3.865584,10.821533&sll=52.646396,0.409927&sspn=0.248715,0.676346&geocode=FfAqIwMdYX0UACkTolx8M-LZRzFi_nxbvCSuGw%3BFRK4IgMdhmIGAA%3BFU9gIwMd9p0CAA %3BFWHgJwMdMYr5_yl1cl6P6T14SDHvDqSGv09whA%3BFd-cLAMd_PHx_w%3BFRPAPgMdw5Dm_w%3BFc8mQQMdiXjm_ykNf1B zzIJ-SDEJEi51gl33lw%3BFZFlQwMdVFXh_ykz1xNwPjN8SDFtzdpEW W56rg%3BFTGnRQMdrYXd_ykJeUGLJ7d9SDGENiKNBkhvzg%3BF XxtRgMd5wDe_ynFZf2b07l9SDH76FVIZETpDw%3BFTR1SQMdtJ rd_ymhWdrCvJV9SDHArbQLCSQDPQ&oq=NR7&t=h&mra=mivtw&via=3&z=7)

So it's meet at Morrisons Wisbech (Point C) for 10am with a 10:30 departure, and we'll be at point D McD's for midday for others to meet up if they want to, leaving there at 12:30ish

That's what I'm thinking, although if I bring the KTM I would likely put the panniers on so it would still be the wisest....the Rocket can filter, it's still all about the width of the handlebars which makes it easier than the KTM with panniers wider than the bars, as I've found out before now :)

I'm gonna ring the insurers in the next few days to find out how much they want to sting me for putting more annual mileage on my policy....as I have no means to barter I would imagine they'll try and put their commission back onto the damn thing again....we'll see. Next time around I'll put more mileage on the damn thing and take a smaller hit upfront!

I'll happily do 300 miles in a day for fun but these are mostly roads I've been on before, I've never done 350 miles on back roads only that I have no idea about...I will no doubt get my fill of back roads from the AR route and from going home via Manchester and the Peak District...not back to work until the Wednesday so I figure taking a scenic route home via family :)

Admit I have my gear going via 4 wheels. But I guess I could still pack light as we did it in the 80's.

I put my Oxfords on the 675. It's quite shocking how fat it makes its ass.
Gone through my key elements
My "sticky string " feels Ok but I might get some new ones and the gas has been used for inflation of push bikes. So new is needed. Hopefully halfords sell it.
