Not me, but Skip put a Power commander on his & had it mapped, best thing he said he did.

Suspension isn't that bad, certainly not in budget Sv650 league

The suspension is alright, but, when I was involved in an incident that lead to my front forks becoming bent I took the opportunity to upgrade to GSXR 750 K6/7 forks and they are better, but, the expense is a bit of a bone of contention if you have good original forks.

I have done quite a few mods to my Thou', not all might be of use to everyone.

She now has a double bubble screen, stubby levers, adjustable clipons, sat nav cradle, Arrow Titanium End cans, Hel brake lines, Hard luggage kit, Tutoro chain oiler, flush front inicators, new LED tail-light (was integrated, but, these are now an MoT failure,) strip rear indicators, racing grips (more comfortable,) custom "repaint", Armstrong wavey discs front and back, radiator cover and some Pilot 2cts

I'd avoid taking the dampener off, gives the bike great stability and I have no issue with her turning in.

Avoid HIDs might be a good idea too, just buy better bulbs.

I had no issue setting up the old or the new suspension, depends how much you weigh, I am 13 stone without leathers

My damper was knackered and after taking it off you get loads more feel. I got a new GSXR one to put on but really don't miss it and really like the extra feel you get without it. Have you ever actually needed a damper in normal riding?

Loads of adjustability on the suspension but suggest you ride it and see what you don't like before you go messing with anything beyond the cosmetics.

Mine's got a few bits and bobs done to it around the exhaust and induction but to be honest I think it just makes it make a better noise and gets through more fuel.

I think it is more a case of I have no issues with it on, so, wouldn't take it off, but, I have had a few issues when under hard acceleration and the front becomes light which I would give the dampener praise for saving.

I don't have a PC on my Thou' and she has never caused me any issues and gets 150 miles before to low fuel light comes on.

Also, be careful with how loud your bike it, can cause it to fail the MoT too

Going to keep originals for MOT just not a fan of the twin torpedoes :-)

stop listening to that person is your first mod

suspension is fine until the mileage racks up then its just new rear shock and front fork oil change (like any other bike) , standard F Forks are fully adjustable just like the gsxr just not upside downies
brakes are fine, same as the gsxr and they seem to stop alright, again after mileage new pads and proper service (like any other bike)

mods worth doing,
adjust lever angle position (free)
shorty levers ( £35-150 dependant on brand)
zaust ( the world is your oyster £10-2000)
hand guards & heated grips (year round riding £100)
gel seat ( £20-250)
tail tidy (£35)
tyres (avon storm ultra ,year round riding £200)
screen ( your height dependant double bubble/ race/ short etc £10-150)
rear hugger ( £35-85)
crash bungs ( £100- 300)
dyno setup ( so varied I wont even guess for your local one)

everthing else is subjective and looks related

Front's supposed to go light under hard acceleration. It's the front wheel coming off the ground. You feel it going light earlier with no damper so can manage it accordingly. Not convinced a damper would do a lot there but if it makes you feel happy then that's a good thing.

That is more that I meant, it is a confidence thing. Also, fully laden under heavy breaking I get less wiggle due to the dampener I think

tre = waste of time
basicly it puts your ecu onto a different map , far better to just get it set up properly for what your running and how you want it to run ( more torque/ top end/ fuel eco etc)

Like others have said, suspension and brakes are good. Braided lines and EBC HH pads improve the brakes, especially if you are going to use it hard. My mods are : -

Dark Screen,
Chewy's mirror extenders,
R & G's,
R1 throttle tube for slightly quicker action.
Tail tidy with small indies on rear,
Gilies Rearsets ( essential for track use )
K&N filter
BOS road legal cans
heavier fork oil.
Rear shock serviced by KAIS after 25000 miles £120.
Pilot Power 3's

I can link you to some video's if you want to see how she goes on track with standard supension and brakes + the mods above. I have had her for 7 years, she's done 27000 miles and 31 trackdays ( 32 this Saturday coming ).

davepreston
28-05-14, 12:00 PM
EBC hh are a very good set of pads (imho) more feel all round rain or shine
M/cylinder upgrade tbh not worth doing unless your racing it regularly
the sv1000 as standard is very good when it comes to a everyday use / occasional trackday bike, after that you just upgrade for what you sense it may be lacking for what your using it for

if its just as a trackday tool or jolly bike go with the same spec stuff as Alan/ ratty
if you want a more everyday touring type i'll fire you up a list of the comfiest mods

bobbleheadbarne

Here are some links as promised mate.

This one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ul1k5KTqRKM) is onboard from my first outing this year at Oulton.

This one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrvhaS7KzWo) was last year at Donington filmed from my mates GSXR750K5 track bike.

This one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUQi-Bdxck0) in very wet conditions at Oulton, again filmed from my mates GSXR which was on full wets. I'm using Michelin PP3's after spending years on PP2CT's. It's not very clear, but he does get up close at times.

More older vids if you like and I'm trying to find some time to edit some ace onboard footage from Donington in April.

DP is right about the M/C. Good until battered hard then I start to loose the lever. Never got round to getting a Brembo yet though.

Hope you enjoy the vids.

If it is in the style you like and you're comfortable paying that price for it, fine. But, I am not someone who likes paying asking price for things, let alone paying over the odds for some injection moulded plastic.

At the end of the day, she is your bike and you got to make her your own. I made all kinds of mods to my bike because I wanted them. Not everyone is going to want a hard luggage kit, but I did, so my bike has one.

The worst thing you can do is buy something and find out afterwards it is a hell of a lot cheaper somewhere else and you'd have found it if you'd just waited
