Ok so I've done no bike miles since last September and the MOT is booked for tomorrow so on Saturday I thought I better check it over.

Uh oh, tax disc ended September last year. I usually SORN for winter. Off down the post office I go with insurance and current mot. "We dont need that stuff, just the v5c. It's all on the 'pooter these days." he says. "Oh burger" says me, a trip back home it is.

Back down to P.O. clutching the right paperwork. Took 6mths from 1st May. Fit to bike.

Fit new tyre, lube chain, check pressures etc. Bike gear on. Go fir a run, get fuel.
Get wallet out, feel envelope in pocket. A years bloody tax from 1st October 2013!!!!!!!

So how does a system know you haven't paid and is then used to fine you, but can't tell you you've paid twice and give it you back straight away?
Got to do a refund form, and I'll bet I wont get May back, even tho I've paid it twice and not ridden for almost 8mths.
Sneaky feckers.

numpty :-)

technically you should get the lot back as you're already taxed. Just tell them what you have done and give them a nudge that their system does not work correctly.

Just think when they take the disc away you will have no record of if you have paid or not.

Odd. When I went to get my fist disc after buying the GSX they told me it was still taxed for another two months and to come back when it was due, something about not being able to tax it twice.

This is why you shouldn't let an actual person get involved in the system. Computers adhere to the checks but humans use natural stupidity, which ALWAYS trumps artificial intelligence.

In fairness this did happen on the Isle of Skye. I didn't think they even had computers up there....:o
