Okay, so come Saturday (minus any MORE mishaps) I will be needing to MOT my bicycle. Problem is I usually take to a place in Kilwinning but its sat in my brothers garage in Kirkliston and I think driving it 60 miles to a MOT station is taking the ****.

Annyyyywaayyyy, anyone know good places around Kirkliston/Livingston/Edinburgh where they wont get too flaky about my mildly illegal exhaust?

Cheers

Saltire would more that likely be your nearest

Still legal - you could even bring it down here.
All you need is for the test to be pre-booked. ;)

Thanks Bibs, just thought a big dealer like Saltire may be more likely to fail a non road legal exhaust. I usually just stick some tape over the "not for road use" bit!

If taking it that far is legal I would likely just take it to my usual place, give it a shakedown before getting to the MOT. I thought there was some sort of distance limitation.

Cheers Dean that's a pretty handy little page :)

Haven't had an MOT done there, but I've always found the guys at Saltire to be really good/helpful whenever I've been in. Would be worth a quick call to check their stance on the exhaust before taking it in, but I don't imagine it'd be an issue.

I've had a couple of mots at saltire. My stubby scorpion hasn't caused any problems (no advisory) although I do stick the baffle in for the test. Might be different with the baffle out I suppose although it is modestly fruity even with it in, albeit supposedly legal - certainly louder than OEM which I believe is the entirely subjective test on which even legal stamped cans can be failed. As others say, the geezers at salt ire are a fairly decent bunch.

Yeah from previous MOT's it's been the case where they pass it on their own opinion but apparently if they actually see the "not for road use" then they need to fail it - hence the tape. It's not actually that loud compared to most. Most other bikes at our meets drown mines out.

It also turns out the bike originally came from saltire, I will likely just book it in there. All they can do is fail it :)

Never had an issue with a main dealer MOT. But I know the dealership so do get away with things.
AJC some heatproof tape, as the MOT test cannot disturb things like tape over not for road use tags
