Hi.

Hoping someone can let me in on the secret here.

I'm in the middle of replacing rear discs and pads on the car (2009 Lancer Ralliart, btw) and have hit a problem.

Caliper is off. Pads out. Trying to remove disc but the handbrake mechanism is in-board the disc I think on this model. Tried pressing off the disc but no joy after the first few mm of play.

How do you free off the handbrake? Am I being daft? Probably lol.

Oh yes, it's a semi-auto if that makes a difference.

does the car have a 'park' mode?

when you refer to 'inboard the disc' is the disc a drum and disc with the drum part having shoes?

It's been a while but don't they have a couple of threaded holes that you can put a bolt in to push them off? You might just have a lip on the internal drum for the handbrake that's catching in which case a good old wiggle or some application of a largish hammer shakes the rotor enough to free it off.

Ah, hello Bibio! Was almost going to pm u this, lol.

Yes, has park mode. Penny dropped as soon as you mentioned it.

Conventional disc and pad setup, but with shoes on the inside of the disc too.

you might need to disengage park mode to release the shoes. if its cable operated then try to loosen off the cable to give you more clearance. if it's an open shoe hub then there might be a lip formed so you need to chip the crud off.
