Such a shame.
No real details, just that he made contact with someone on Joeys corner and lost control.

Races like the TT and NW200 are exciting to watch, but they really aren't safe are they!? There just isn't any room for error, no run offs etc.

Do you think these type of races will continue?

RIP Karl

I'll be interested to see what comes of this in the next few weeks

Everyone who rides the TT do so because they love it and know the risks, I would hope that's considered as it would be a great loss if it stopped...

This happens in the TT though, has done for a long time so I would expect nothing will change :)

RIP Karl

Agree 100%.............
Not been to IOM TT, but been to other 'pure road'.........always a jolt when competitors lose their lives, they do it because they love it and know the risk involved.

I was just saying today that the guy died doing the one thing he likely loves to do the most, there are worse ends. I bet most TT riders almost expect that when it's there time it'll be on that track...

Three-time British Supersport champion Karl Harris has died following a crash in the Superstock race at the Isle of Man TT on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old lost his life after an incident on lap two of the race, which happened on the Mountain section of the course at Joey’s.

A statement released on Tuesday evening by the Isle of Man TT organisers said: “ACU Events Ltd regrets to announce that Karl Harris, 34, from Sheffield was killed during the Superstock race at the Isle of Man TT races today following an incident at Joey’s on the second lap of the race.

“Harris, a professional motorbike racer, made his TT races debut in 2012. He was a triple British Supersport Champion and British Superbike podium finisher.

“He was best known for his British Championship career. He was the dominant force in the British Supersport Championship in the early 2000s before becoming a prominent front-runner in the Superbike class for the factory Suzuki, Honda and Yamaha teams.

“Harris won three British Supersport Championships between 2001 and 2004, the first for Crescent Suzuki and the remaining two for Honda Racing, before progressing full time to the premier Superbike category in 2005. His best season came in 2006 when he finished in fifth place overall recording six podiums. In total, Harris notched up 12 BSB podiums.

“The ACU wishes to pass on their deepest sympathy to Karl’s family and friends.”

Gary Thompson, TT Clerk of the Course, expressed his sadness at the news.

“Karl was one of the great characters in the race paddock. His infectious enthusiasm and sense of humour lit up many race meetings. He was a hugely talented racer and will be sorely missed.”

The Coroner of Inquests has been informed and an investigation into the circumstances of the accident is underway.

There are other sports that are just as dangerous if not more. The TT and other road racing events such as the ulster and NW200 get a bad reception because most that are in media and write the articles are anti bike or so H&S they need to do a risk assessment before wiping their own ****.

As said, no one force's any of the racers to do it so why try and stop them? You wouldn't consider stopping people sky diving yet more people die doing that a year than road racing.

Bomber Harris had a successful career outside of road racing so why would he have done it unless it was for the love of the sport? He certainly didn't need to do it or for the money as there is no money in road racing.

I'm over here at the moment.

RIP, he died doing something hd loved.

Extremely sad news :(

I really hope that, despite being dangerous, nobody ever tries to interfere with the TT and road racing on those grounds. As has already been said, the riders fully understand the risks and accept them. Mountaineers, base jumpers and many others engage in scary, dangerous activities because they love it and generally speaking get left alone to enjoy their sport.

However, the EU and our own Nanny state have a habit of sticking their noses in where they're not wanted. I would expect that some knob jockey in parliament might eventually get vocal.

Tragic News, Rest in Peace Karl. I watched him at Brands when he was unbeatable on the 600's and went to the T.T. between '91 and '03 and still look up to the men and women that take it on. If the riders want to ride the T.T. they should be allowed to, everybody racing is there because they want to be, it has always been a labour of love.

If the 'ban it' brigade get the T.T. stopped, the North West and Irish Road Races will be next then possibly the short circuits, B.S.B. and club racing?

I doubt it will be stopped as imagine the revenue it brings to the island every year! RIP
