The 650 is a lot of fun. Plenty of power and easy to ride. Can't comment on the thou as I have never ridden one.

The 650 is plenty fast enough, you just need to know how to use the power it has, where it has it.

About £200/£300 more than a curvy in good nick. Like mine is. The curvy is easier to work on too.

two very different bikes the 650 and the thou
650 is very flickable and great scratch around bike
the thou is a wheelie monster with more weight and a shed load more power
im a thou man myself but ive owned every variation of the 650 and thou (except the gladius)

Matt-EUC
07-06-14, 07:36 PM
Yeah, don't buy a gladius.

The 650 has plenty enough power for the road, more is fun but there's enough. I have a fully faired pointy, it's not very comfortable for commuting or slow riding but is fun for blasts on A and B roads and is a decent mile eater for longer trips. Try to test ride one first because the ergos are a bit weird.

Matt-EUC

The curvy is more comfortable. ;)

it depends what your wanting to do with it
650 k3 mint £2500 (with extras) rough £900
1000 k3 mint £ 2500 (standard) rough £1200

650 for round town and really fun B roads
1000 for everything from everyday to touring, not as chuckable as the 650 but fun in so many ways

have a look at ratty firing the sz round the track ( in bobbleheads thread)

plus your height id say is the biggest factor after what your using it for
if your short go 650 if like me your 6 foot go straight for the thou

Your best bet is to look on auto trader or MCN.

This is (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjbxNwSlqo0&feature=youtu.be) probably a better video for seeing how the SZ1000SZ handles herself. Black framed bikes are better than K3 / K4's. They are comfy and rewarding when you take the time to set them up. Mine is also good on fuel when not on track and Duel compound Michelins will last for ages. Valve servicing is easier than the 650 because you don't need to disturb the cam chains.

Hope this helps.

Ah cheers ratty I got.told go fpr k3 as taller . Wpd you get a black frame one for around 2.5?

K3 is taller by 40mm I think, but K4 + got a deeper seat to even out the front and rear seat levels and maintain the overall seat height when the frame was lowered. Subframe was steel and heavier. They also had a few reliability problems, but these should all be sorted now. Black framed bikes had more power due to higher compression, bigger intake and throttle bodies and a different map and the clutch was improved. The BTL clutch is great on track. I would try and get an extended test ride before buying because they are not to everybody's taste, but saying that... there are a lot of keepers. I picked mine up over 7 years ago and still see little reason to change except for something maybe a little more track focussed. SZ's come up on ebay all the time. Good K3's are still about though.

Just to give you an idea on price I bought an SV650s about 6 months ago. It's a Pointy, K8, fully faired in black had 6500 miles on it for 3k from a dealer.

In all honesty I would like a bit more power. Although I do have a lot of fun on it.

For commuting, a naked is better. Less strain on the wrists and shoulders.

their is a thou for sale in the for sale section here a N , I also like the fact it was owned by an orger so you get loads of real world history of the bikes that go on here genrally

right been looking at cbr600rr,zx6rs and r6s and still got to admit 650 is looking appealing. they are about a grand cheaper than other bikes listed and about 200 quid cheaper on insurance. i am looking for something cheapish to run insure buy and have a bit of fun when i get day off work etc and occasional two up with wife( shes not really been on back so dunno if she will like it). and if i really want to go crazy i have a 03 600rr bike thats tuned up to 118bhp at rear wheel so could do a trackday and i think is why sv is looking sensible one for road etc.

wht are your guys thought's to it. i know some of you once wsorted rear shok and resprung front would probably give said bikes a run for money on roads

I got my k6 (blue, full-fairing, 5000 miles, mint) for 2550... worth every penny. the 1000 is nice, but a little bit too much for commuting, especially if you ride mostly in the city. I mean, do you really need to get to 60mph in less than 3 seconds?

regarding naked or sport, I tend to disagree with the above opinion that a naked is better for commuting. it's the other way round, naked bikes (I mean high handlebars) are better for touring.

it the end it all comes down to what commuting means to you and what your budget is.

Lucas66
17-06-14, 03:06 PM
Yea I agree mate just cant make my mind up on a single bike. Budget is upto about 3k wife would like less alot less lol

if you like to rip up the tar on main roads get the thou. if you like off the beaten track get the 650.

650-1000 fuel. while the 1000 is stopping for fuel the 650 (twin spark) will be waving you goodbye until the next fill up.

yes i also feel that the 650 needs that bit of extra grunt at times but you always want that extra grunt no matter what bike you get as it's never enough.

then we get onto willy waving. if you feel ashamed of the size then get a bigger bike to make yourself feel more manly and one of the 'magazine boys'.

Just get a gixxer thou and be done with it. You will then have the largest penis known to man and others will bow down to your willy waving capabilities. (More out of being safety conscious than anything else)

You will also find you are the proud owner of the fastest motorcycle in the known universe and no rider could possibly ride faster than you due to your inexplicable riding skill because you bought the greatest motorcycle in the multiverse.

And every chav will ask how much you paid for it too.
