how much per mile does it cost you to run your bike?

i'm 26p a mile which includes

petrol
tyres
servicing inc brakes, oil, filters, sundrys
insurance
road tax
mot
AA cover

half of the 26p a mile is petrol the other half is keeping the bike on the road.

Off the top my head around 45p as I've had 2 rears so far this year

About 2.65(I have no idea but wouldn't surprise me due to insurance! ) but not overly fussed about the cost as I enjoy it.

28.8p including all bike specific costs including boots, jacket etc. and paying for the bike itself.
9.9p of that is petrol.
13.8p pays for the bike
5.1p pays for tax, insurance, servicing, repairs, MOT

I don't count the RAC membership as that's a joint thing with the wife and the car.

This is a cost based over 12,000 miles per annum;
2.5p insurance
13p fuel
2.5p tyres
1p for servicing
less than half a penny for Tax

Too much and it's all my fault....doesn't help having 2 bikes, both of which are greedy buggers

That's not bad. My K5 came in at 19.6p once the bike itself had been discounted from the figures.

I don't think it is possible to put a price on pleasure.

ermmm yes it is :safe:

i never included clothing and the bike. i thought that it was not bad but also was a bit shocked just how much in reality it costs me each Sunday.

You guys pay a lot for fuel. When I worked it out, it only costs me 7p/mile.

I think it 20 on the button but I might be wrong. I don't often run it to empty.

The ST is cheap to run (except for the drive belt) in 12k I do 2 rear tyres & a front (the joys of running sport rubber!)

How many miles do they say you'll get out of that belt?

They recommend to change it at 24k, you can run longer than that with no issues provided you keep an eye on the belt & tension. My last one lasted till 32K.

so about the same or less than a chain with a scottoiler. i'm on 22k and the front sprocket is starting to get a wee bit hooked so i'll replace it some time soon.

12k in 12 months. The original belt was on it when I bought the bike.

There or there abouts, A new belt is £260 +/- 10% & a 10 minute job to fit.

I really shouldn't have read this thread, but then felt compelled to calculate.

With just 800miles completed from last year's MOT to this year's, I make it 75p/mile.:smt105

I just included tax, insurance, fuel, oil change and two tyres.

Also replaced a full set of suspension bearings and Nitron shock plus chain+sprox, but they would be spread over a few years I guess. That figure over one year - £1.45. Eek!

Note to self - get out and ride the damn thing!

there is no way i'm calculating in all the suspension work on mine

so lets just say basics...i calculated:
6k miles out a set of tyres. so £xx divided by 6000
3.5k oil and filter change +cppl £ for sundrys. £xx divided by 3500
14mpl or £30 for 300 miles
insurance. i do 6k a year so £xx divided by 6000
tax. i do 6k a year so £xx divided by 6000
mot. i do 6k a year so £xx divided by 6000

What it's costing me per mile is the last thing I want to think about.

However I was intrigued, so's after a looking up a lot of prices and doing a boat load of conversions:
Based on last year, 13p per mile, mostly due to petrol prices (.48p per litre here today) but I only get 4k out of a set of tyres, and 2500 miles on an oil change.

Less then 26p a mile i hope. Thats what I can claim back.

DJob. What did you pay for your ST, if you don't mind me asking. I am going to need to consolidate the SV ad Tiger into one bike at some point, preferably a bike that is cheaper to insure then the Tigger.

That's my beef. The car mileage the taxman lets you claim is enough to turn in a tidy profit, but bike allowance is less than the running cost.

and it has a bigger tank! :(

I love you too matt, but how do expect our relationship to grow if you can't even say it in public?
:o

Matt-EUC
18-06-14, 01:44 PM
I can't say it in public for there are no words sufficient to express my feelings. If I could count all the stars in the night sky, that still would not be enough.

If I could recite Pi to it's fullest without the decimal point, that still would not be enough.

No number, quantity nor measure could possibly come close to describing how I feel.

So for until such words exist to express my emotions truly, **** you.

Perhaps counting all the clouds in the sky would be more of a challenge. Although most of the time, that would be 1 - covering all of it.

23p / mile. That means an average Sunday rideout costs me £35 for 150 miles. Not exactly a bargain but not bad for ~5 hours out with mates.

Do I have to include my lunch at the chippie ? Cos that would take it to 26p / mile.
