View Full Version : Exhaust wrapping pros/cons?
Hi guys, im looking at heat wraping my exhaust, now ive read neumourous debates for and against doing it but i have a mate who uses wraps on his harleys and he has no corrosion issues like ive heard, he simply wraps the exhaust super tight then uses clear high temp silicone spray to keep water out, i was planning to do the same with mine but what do you guys think ? Surely the exhaust corroding would be over a period of years to the point where it effects the integrity of the metal itself ?
Thanks in advance :)

I have no knowledge of wrapping, just a question, why ?.
Two reasons mainly .... 1 ive polished the down pipe and now its gone a wierd colour (& i like the look.of them) and 2 to try and keep the heat down, my bike really radiates heat which is not great when the suns out !

The wraps I've used do attract and hold moisture, but it does take a very long time to eat stainless steel pipes. My RC-51 exhaust has been wrapped for 12 years with no problem, but, it's garage kept and rarely put away wet, partly because it's rarely ridden in the rain.
If you live and ride and store your bike where it's often wet, your results may vary.

Don't worry you won't be worried about it radiating heat for long
