Hello guys,
Well as title says I had a accident yesterday. In a but shell a car pull out of a junction about 20 metres from me doing 30mph.
Slam the front brake lock the front wheel, while the rear, according to a witness was up in the air. Let the brake go and re-apply but lost it, bike fall on my right knee and slide.
Bottom line I have no much skin left on the knee, I can walk today.
But as mentioned I have a witness (a taxi driver) saying the same as me. However the car driver who pull in front of me said to the police officer last night that he didn't move from the junction and that I braked for no reason. However when I was on the floor he said (before the officer was there) "sorry I didn't see you, sorry I didn't see you with the sun".
Already been on the phone with Dalton White, and spoke to my insurance both said it should but 100% his liability but will take a while if he carry on with denying pulling of the junction.
It was the last time I rode with normal jean.
I only saw the police officer's picture of the bike but so far I know I have the following broken:
- front brake leaver
- rear brake pedal
- front right indicator
- right crush number
- front top fairing missing paint
And it was leaking was on it's side, but the officer who is a biker herself said it wasn't leaking while park on the side.
My helmet isn't damaged as I didn't hit the floor with it, but jean's, jacket and gloves are gone - my new alpinestar boots are ever so slightly scratched with really annoy me!!!
Will keep you updated and will posted the required part once I get it back this afternoon. The expert should come and visit in couple of days.

GWS glad its not tooo bad.
Lucky you have witness & you remembered what they said.
It'll drag on, but with a witness, it should be quicker

Sorry to hear that.
Try and find something to learn from the accident to make you a better rider.
All the best.
Sorry to hear this. Glad you were able to walk away. It's a big plus that you have the taxi driver acting as witness.

Cheers for your comments, well for sure I will not ride in Jean's anymore. Apart from that not sure what I could improved upon after it. I was looking at the driver's face and he was looking at me, no reasons to think he didn't saw me, and you cannot stop to give way at every junctions because those reckless car driver are not concentrated.
When doing my direct access the instructor told me I will become a better car driver after riding a bike and his was so right, your awareness is miles better!!!
Glad you're (relatively) OK!
Sometimes road positioning can help, moving out towards the centre of the road for instance increases the angle between you and the driver, making your approach more obvious. If you're coming straight at them, bizarely it seems to take the human brain longer to register movement. That's not to say that this is your fault at all, at some point you need to just make a judgement call that reasonably you must have been seen, but there are a few things that I now do that seem to help me have fewer near misses.
Get the bike assessed, if at all possible get it back to yours so it's not racking up storage fees.
Once it's been assessed by an insurer you can work out what the cost of putting it right is and decide what you want to do.
You can get kevlar jeans from hood/draggin jeans and a few others that are a compromise between leathers and standard denim that may be worth a look if you don't fancy full gear all the time.
Hope you're feeling better soon and that the insurance process doesn't drag on too long!

I have two mates coming this afternoon to push it back to mine, luckily just about 3/4 minutes walk. The insurance expert will contact me to assess the bike in the next couple of days, more likely will do the repair myself if possible, then wait for the case to be Seattle in order to fix the cosmetic damages.
The guys at Dalton White were very helpful and would recommend to all to ring before ringing your insurance as they advice me on cost and options, originally the insurance refused to send the expert to mine and insisted on the bike to be taken to there local repair shop.

The witness will be everything in this case.Did the police speak to him and do you have his details. You will need this bloke.

Yeah the police spoke to him, and will get statement Wednesday, I already gave my insurance his details. Will ring him later on also.
Got the bike back, so far the neutral light doesn't come on, but manage to find it and the dash board has a check message, however the bike started fine.
Well done for keeping it together.
Good you have a witness.
Some people are bar stewards aren't they.
Shame about the knee but it will get better.
Ok leathers would be better but kevlar ones are cool and better of the bike.

So as mentioned I got it back this afternoon. I struggle to find the neutral and the light never came on the dash once found. I also have a check message on the dashboard, and the injection pump didn't start until I push the kickstand up. The ingnition pump started and the engine started very easily. Run normally (sound wise)
How to reset the message which I am assuming is there because the bike was on his side, and would it affect the neutral light, or would you think the gearbox got damaged?
Thanks again for your kind words, really want it to be fixed and fit to ride again!

Right to keep you up to date.
I played with the gears just now and the neutral light came back. No more messages on the dashboard.
However my exhaust has been scratch pretty badly and is now leaking, problem is that I need to get the bike to an MOT test before the end of July. Am I right thinking that would be a failure due to the gaz leak on the exhaust?

Quick update
The expert should be there tomorrow to asses the bike. In the meantime Dalton White is taking my case and they feel it should be settled without going to court. The driver is going to be prosecuted by the police for dangerous driving, which is going to make my claim even stronger.
I am still unable to walk without crutches, I am going to the physio on Wednesday and should know more.
Quite funny that my boss rang me, telling me that he hopped he was going to sell the bike!! Told him that if it wasn't going to be fix I will have another one before being able to walk again...

Right,
The expert just came and the bike isn't repairable!! Now waiting for the valuation and will be looking for a new bike.
This is really annoying has I have a new Michelin pilot road 4 (front), all new brake pads, new air filter, new spark plugs....

Yeah that for sure, still not walking properly and off work.
However white Dalton are on the case and it should be settle quickly.
Now the question, what bike to buy? I loved the sv but the wife wasn't comfortable.
I am tempting by a fz6s, would love a speed triple but the are very expensive and the lack of fairing put me off a bit for those long journey....
How about a V Storm?
Same but different and adventure style bikes are all the rage.

Gosh no!!! Thanks but no no no...
Still liking the triumph street triple or looking at Honda hornet!
Question, if I remove few part on my sv before she gets taking away do you think I have any risks? Thinking of belly pan, "carbon rear hugger", fender extender.
If you listed on your insurance they might ask for them back. But most likely it won't make any odds for what you are thinking.

Yeah looks like it. Otherwise do not know what to get. Must be 106bhp max ('cause I might move back to France and they have that stupid law!)
Wife love to pillion and she likes to be comfortable. And must be fun...
Any suggestion?
Get her to do her test and get two Stripples ;)

Update:
Bike was picked up this morning, it is really hard to see it go. Good news is that I argued the valuation with the expert and I got a good price for the bike.
Visited the rvi mid week, the doctor feel that I might have ligament damages. Visited the physio today, he also think that I might have ligament damages - an MRI in the next week or so should confirmed that. If that's the case, I will have to have an operation to repair it.
So, after two weeks, I am still of work. Was informed that I will most likely have to have an operation, and that I won't be able to drive (a car) for at least three weeks - best case scenario. But that I won't be able to ride before end of august!!! Not to mentioned that I am getting married this august!! Wife to be not impressed that I might still use crutches!!!
All that for a guy who didn't see me! Open your eyes on the road bloody car drivers - there is other road users!!!
Quite alarming when the truck driver who picked my bike up today said that he was picking up loads of bikes over the summer - and that the physio said that he add loads of motorbike rider visiting him....
I want to ride!
General figures also show that 48% of crashes between motorcycles and cars were the result of the car driver failing to look properly.
Failing to look properly was the most frequent cause of crashes for all vehicles except motorcycles. Motorcyclists were most likely to crash through ‘loss of control’ and also most likely to be the victim of someone else failing to look.

Update
Well they have not accepted reliability within the 16 days, so now the lawyer is building the case. With the witness is just a matter of time I hope now.
Also, today I bought a new bike and brought it back from Edinburgh!!! Went for a Honda Hornet 2007 ABS, and god I like it - obviously very different than our beloved SV (in line 4 vs twin)
Great party cycle and gosh that engine on the right gear is pulling like mad!! Also received my new gear from Armr and so far so good - seems to be of great quality for the price. Time will tell..

Update
Received the good news that the other party is taking full responsibility!
So now I have to wait until I can see a medical expert to value the injury - I have a appointment at the hospital Wednesday to get the result from my MRI. However according to the physiotherapist that I am seeing and doing re-education with my ligament are completely snapped or are holding by a thin thread....
You should be due compensation for loss of earnings and a lump sum for the injury. There is a sliding scale depending on where the injury was and the extent of the damage. For a knee, between £4200 for a minor injury and £49,800 for major damage according to National Accident Helpline. Your insurers solicitor should know what to do.

Oh yeah fully aware of that plus other bits as well, like my wife will get paid for taking care of my and doing my chores. Etc.
I took White Dalton solicitors which have been brilliant so far.

When Mr LPH got knocked off the solicitor said we could claim for me having to do chores like vacuuming, cleaning the bathroom, laundry, ironing, dusting. I asked if this was just for the week he was laid up or the previous ten years we'd been married? :)

That would have been nice isn't!!
Question though, did they asked for proof of the damaged equipment like helmet, gives, etc?
Littlepeahead
22-09-14, 06:45 PM
They did. Being a photographer helped here as I was able to take pictures of all the damaged items and his injuries at decent quality.
His contractor did a letter saying he'd had a week off work and hadn't been paid as he's self employed.
We got Hein Gericke to confirm cost of replacing his clothing, helmet etc on letterhead as an orger at the time worked there.
Sweetthy
22-09-14, 07:05 PM
Well the question is that the helmet has no mark. But obviously after an accident it is safer to replace - not sure how they are going to take that...
Littlepeahead
22-09-14, 07:27 PM
Stuart's head smashed the passenger door window but showed no marks. There is plenty of written evidence that after any accident a helmet should be replaced so it shouldn't be an issue.
