Arrived yesterday from Bike Devils, quick postage and all good with the order.
Comments on the R&G crash bobbins themselves:
No torque settings supplied for the two bolts each side that secure the aluminium mounting bracket to the frame. There is a general note after the section on attaching the mushrooms about not exceeding 40N-m.
The manual has these engine mounting bolts at 55 N-m (front) and 93 N-m (rear - the through bolt that passes through the engine).
I can get 50 N-m on the front (17 mm) however no way can I get 93 N-m on the rear. All that happens is the stainless rod stretches. I can't reach 75 N-m and have held off on tightening these up at the moment. Do R&G expect the individual to only torque these to 40 N-m? Seems a bit low when compared to the factory values.
The second issue is that the rear bolt is supplied as a rod threaded at each end to take nylock nuts. This is pretty poor in my opinion and caused me no end of problems when trying to tighten up. One nut would turn whilst the other remained fixed and thus wind on and I'd end up with half an inch of stud sticking out on one side and the other side only part way on. I eventually got round this using a second locknut to temporarily hold one side whilst I advanced the other.
That would be much better supplied as a through bolt with a nut one end only (but presumably cost about £2 more)
In summary, could do better. And I'd appreciate any advice on torque settings for these bolts as I think I will snap the through bar if I try tightenening to factory settings.
I'll back up some pictures later.
