Hi All
I am just looking for information on an event which happened to me on ebay yesterday.
I had been bidding on a part for the bike and i was the highest bidder.
The auction was due to end tomorrow at 11am
I received an e-mail saying i had been outbid
I thought no big deal as i have plenty of time to increase my offer
Then 20 minutes later i receive another e-mail informing me that the auction has ended and i had been out bid
Can the seller on ebay change the finishing time of their item at any time
Forgive the ignorance if this is an easy answer but i am not wise on the way of ebay
Thanks for any information

The buyer can end the auction early, because the item is no longer for sale, that's one of the options open to close an item.
Pretty sure you can't change the finishing time once the auction has been listed, you can only end it for the reason above, plus these from memory.
1. The was a mistake in the listing
2. The item is faulty.

In reality he got an email saying if you end it early I'll give you XXX much and I can collect today.
3. he can also end early and sell at the current price to the highest bidder.
You can tell if he has ended the early and not sold as usually it cancels all the bids. This also shows what everyones highest bids were too.
4. He can end early if advertised elsewhere and sold through that, although that should be in the ad. Although if that's the case and it wasn't then he is a kn b

This.
I've had plenty of bidders ask me to end items early for x amount, etc. I always refuse if there are bids on the item, but not everyone is so ethical :p
Be nice if people would pay having won an item!!

Is that an official thing?

And to the OP, email the seller and ask. I have done this myself before, you get some interesting responses...
When ending the auction early you get an option to sell at current price to the highest bidder.
I've done this before when I was going away when the auction was due to end which saved the aggro of waiting for the inevitable.

Happened to me just recently on an antique radiogram.
I was bidding £50, then suddenly it was closed because the item was no longer available.
I emailed the seller, asking why my max bid of £600 had been cancelled and what was the final price?
Still waiting for a response ;)
