Dunno why but a couple of weeks ago I decided that I would stop using my mobile. I'm not an important person who needs to be available all day/night and I never phone anyone.
This was going quite well until my dad got called into hospital (planned but urgent) but once he's out, I'll stop using it again. I don't even take it out the house and I don't use it when I'm in the house.
Anyone else done the same?
Nope. Sods law I'll get a puncture or run out of petrol if I did

Admittedly I use mine more for the internet than I do for a phone but I do keep it with me.
mobile whats that.. is that those things you hang above a baby's cot?
ok i do have one but i lost it a while ago then found it out of power in my lockup. in the time it was lost did it mater to my life... eeermmm no. i only need it so if i'm out i on the sunday i can get called if something happens to the wife. i dont like the things and i think they are very impersonal and would rather visit people than talk to them on the phone. i do think however in this day and age they are a must if you have a business. can i remember the time when there were none... ooohhh yes.

And what about when it's not planned?
Emergencies generally aren't.
My parents are both pretty healthy for 60something year olds but you never know when something could happen.
Yes Spank has a point. Wouldn't have got to my dad in time for the final good bye.
Wouldn't have been with Sarah to hold her when her dad had gone too.
Even when the correners verdict was passed I got them to ring me so I could explain to mum. I was miles from home (Watford) when I got the call.
So I'm grateful for mine.

They're a curse and a blessing in about equal measure. I love the fact that I can book a restaurant when I'm on holiday. And I hate the fact that I get calls from work when I'm on holiday.

Understand your point about real emergencies.

Thanks man. I didn't want to be quite so blunt when it hadn't happened to me (and I hope it's a long time till it does) but that's my worry situation.

Being able to react when I got a call saying daughter was in hospital is reason enough to carry one all the time now. Feel naked without it now which is a huge shame....
