View Full Version : licence
I am pretty sure there was a topic on this but i cant find it.
I just had to renew my licence (just the usual renewal due to a set number of years).
I now need to insure my bike. The valid from date on my new licence is two years later than my old licence (i was restricted to 33bhp for two years).
What do i do, I have passed my test in 06 but licence says 08?

The question is usually how long have you held a full licence (since 2006) rather than when is your current licence valid from. Are you sure this isn't the case?
Thank you for the quick reply, yes this is true.
I was worried about when they ask for a copy of my licence it will say 2008 now which could cause me some grief i thought
your date of test passed should still remain 2006 but you held a restricted licence between 2006-2008 after which you automatically held a full licence. as far as i'm aware your counterpart should still state category pass date ??/??/2006
i cant wait till all the new licence malarkey starts ageing and insurance companies ask questions. when did you pass your test Sir, ermm which test... lol

turn it over (the photocard).
On the back it should show when your actual categories are valid from.
it is on the photocard that there is the problem as it says Category A 27-11-08 old licence was 27-11-06
I had this same issue and spoke to the DVLA about it. Their 'view' on it was that from the date 2 years after I was legally allowed to ride any power motorcycle, where as before that I restricted. Your pass date is still the same, only difference is for that particular motorcycle category it shows as a later date.
I still have my pass certificate if I need to prove it to anyone.
Looks like im off in search of my pass certificate then...
