Should do, most laptops run 2.5in drives.
Take your old drive out & measure it
Should fit. Most new ones are 7mm instead of 9.5mm, however they should come with the adapter.

And so long as it fits physically, it is literally as simple as a plug-in-and-play improvement? I have read some confusing stuff about "SATA/SATAII/SATAIII".
Is it a really clean upgrade to such a laptop or will there be lots of software/firmware tinkering that needs doing?
Thank you both!
You will need to reinstall your operating system as that obviously lies on your old hard drive. Your laptop is unlikley to come with the discs to do this as most laptops have a "rebuild partition"
What exactly is the reason you want to insall said SSD?

H'mm, I've found my laptop was tricky to upgrade from XP to Win 7 on a clean install.
Depends why you're changing to a SSD, better performance?
Do you have the OEM or Samsung restore discs?
When I tried to swap from the old HDD to SSD I used this free disc cloning software.

Piece of cake to clone the drive, you just need to be able to connect the new SSD by USB to load the cloned image of your old drive.
Once you've done that, then you can swap the drives over & then do a clean re install.
Well, that's what I'd do

Might as well install Linux (Ubuntu or Fedora) since you are reinstalling the Operating System :P
The SSD drive will be compatible, most modern laptops have it so the hard drive just slides in. Connecting the data and power in one go. Slide old out, slide new in, done.
