I have been repacking an exhaust for the first time tonight with some chopped glass strand. I had gloves on and my overalls on but alas some got on to my forearms. And my does it itch. How long will this last for?!? Is there a cure?

No cure, calamine lotion might help.

Its the tiny glass strands that are poking into you skin that's causing the irritation

There is nothing you can do to avoid this ****. People say a soaking hot bath helps but I found it did nothing for me.

Just wait it out you big pansy.

just dont rub your arms then rub your willy.

I'm usually ok by the next day.

You could always try scraping them off by running the edge of a credit card over your arms.

What I always do is put my arms (or other affected area) under a cold shower head, the running water washes the fibres off and cools the skin.

I used to work with vile stuff called Rock Wool and it got every where. The only answer was a cold shower which washed away the fibres and closed down the pores in the skin.

Fibre glass is rotten horrible stuff and is probably what the pants in hell are made of! :smt105

Rub yourself against walls and doors. That is what my cat does.

So far this is my favourite suggestion.

However, I fear to put my overalls back on. Are they done for or will they carry the shards forevermore?

Wash them, then wash them inside out.

Wash your overalls and then if still itchy wash them again. If that does not work, burn them. :D

If you burn them do it as some kinda offering to the wrench gods.

It's only fibres, not a spider ;)

Go to GM, run round naked.

It won't stop the itching but the all over midge bites will make you realise that this itching was a mere tickle by comparison and suddenly not so bad after all. ;)
