I'm amazed somebody could drive off in a sign written car after such a big impact.

Too light a sentence. The car driver should have been made to use a push bike for 3 months.

You have to wonder why he drove off, yes accidents happen and as in a company vehicle there is insurance in place.

So drink, drugs? either of these would have got him a 12 month ban, so sentence as if they were the reason.

I hope he also lost his job as a result. I would have sacked him for bringing the company into disrepute.

Why he drove off?
He had no memory of the collision. So I'm going with drugs

Did anyone else think that could have been deliberate? The way the van drove at the bike, then didnt appear to brake even after the impact, then drove straight off?I wonder if there was a thorough police investigation into this,or just a box ticking a+b=easy nick.

ADT alarms by the looks of it. Good advertising for them.

WTF - That looked like it smarted a bit. He looked like a rag doll.
Bit of a joke sentence. A public flogging would have been much more appropriate.

Goes to show that if you are "relaxed" about falling off you usually get away lighter. Mate of mine was rear-ended on push pushbike while riding along. Knew nothing about it until he found himself going through the windscreen of the car. Got away amazingly lightly. Doctors recon chillin' is the best way to hit the ground. Will need to remember that the next time I have an unplanned dismount!

As for the ADT driver..... should be used as a speed-bump for a while and see how he likes it.

Should be banned for life. No excuse for driving off like that. The sentence is a total joke as well.

i have seen this happen before but with cars. trailing car looking at thraffic on roundabout and decides they have a clear gap. car in front is over causos driver who decides that there is no clear gap, trialling car hits stopped car in front when they look forward expecting there to be nobody in front. it's more common that you think and just because its a bike you think its worse. the worse part about it is the hit and run, there was no need for that. if the video was of two cars nobody would have butted an eyelid.

If it was a video of two cars it wouldn't have had one of the drivers rolling around on the road.

Shocking, but happens all to often.
Its an ADT vehicle involved, and they're a regular offender for accidents

I hate watching accident videos so much :(

License should be removed after a hit and run. It is a clear sign of having no respect for the safety of other people on the road. If you can't share, you don't get to.

I agree with Kenzie :)
He should have been banned for 6 months even if he had stopped. Driving away after such a bad impact !!!!! He should have got 5 years prison at least. That guy could have died for all this ******* knew or cared. One has to presume the judge doesn't like bikers ! I wonder what sentence he would have given if that had been his son or daughter on that bike ? Accidents happen yes... but to drive away like that.... words fail me !

Claiming the vehicle was stolen should make no difference on the sentence if he was still charged, he wouldn't have been charged if the claim was valid.

That's a hit and run if you ask me.

Erm what about perverting the course of justice?

Sounds like a very convenient lie, though reasonable doubt applies. This should have been better investigated. It would be a lot more aggravating to the case if he had been proven to lie. To me it feels the biker did not want to deal with the hassle of a long trial, lawyers, etc.

Lucky he wasn't heavily injured and lucky somebody else filmed it in a dashcam. It could've been really bad and hit'n'runner never found. Dashcams should become a more common thing.

A few years back my brother got arrested by the police. He was charged with a full night of thieving around, he was puzzled until they showed him video footage of his car being used in the crimes. He had parked a few days before and hadn't used/seen the car since. A few hours later an other policeman found the car abandoned somewhere with clear signs of breaking in (smashed window and tampered electronics). They investigated and my brother was released and given the car back.

Why 5 years in prison? That's OTT. It was a hit & run. The biker (luckily) was not killed or injured.

Look into sentencing laws & you'll find they are strict on what sentences judges can pass. Their opinion has nothing to do with it, they have to abide by the rules and facts presented to them.
Much worse things go on in the world unpunished.
