Don't need top-of the range, but I hate having to remember things so maybe an automatic proximity-unlocker would be good if that exists.
Who has what alarm installed, and what do they think of it?

more to go wrong. nobody pays the slightest bit of attention to the going off so whats the point. if they want your bike they will have it.

I've got a Xena alarmed disc lock. I wouldn't get one wired to my bike
All these three recommendations are the way to go.
- I particularly like the rot.
Don't wire in anything fancy - it *will* let you or another owner down.

Yay alarms, 400 quid to fit if you pau for it, save 8 quid a year on insurance and drive yourseld nuts if you get gusts over 30 knots.....
Immobilizer and a big chain/ground anchor - almax if you can afford it (landmines are a personal preference but regrettably illegal)
I've bought 2 bikes with alarms, both have malfunctioned and left me stranded so had them removed. Don't bother.

Don't some insurance companies still insist on alarms being fitted?

This is what I was thinking. Then I don't have to press buttons EVERY time I get on my bike, I can just activate overnight.

The paradigm, it seems..

I know, that's why I don't have one currently fitted. I've had a terrible experience with one on my SV and declared "never again!" but I am moving to Rome, where bike thefts are much more common, and I can't stick a ground anchor into a public road. The bike will be on a heavily used public road and I will need something more than a heavy chain or disc lock.

Story of my SV and datatool.... :(
Just ride around on a scooter with no helmet on like the locals do.

Unless you're young like me and they make a stupendous difference to your insurance you're better of with physical locks like a chain, disk lock or ground anchor, they don't call you when they get lonely!
