I'm currently working on a 2005 Ducati 749. Just put it back together, had to replace the clutch and rear wheel due to a crash and tidy it up. New battery fresh fuel and the bike fires up nicely. The problem is with the clutch in and side stand up it stalls when I select first gear.

So I suspect an issue with the side stand switch. I will take it off and have a check but just wondering if there are any other suggestions to check? The second thing is if it is faulty the obvious thing is to replace it, but if I have it booked for a MOT in the morning what suggestions to bypass this are there that will see it through the MOT?

is the sidestand one of those silly self retracting ones?

have you checked the sidestand bolt to see if it is bent which is common on Dukes due to people turning them on the sidestand. could just be a case of the bolt is misaligning the stand/switch.

another thing is the spring which goes loose.

Don't think its one of the patented self retracting stands.

Just whipped it back on the stands. Side panel off. Switch disconnected and run a continuity test. Side stand down I get a beep on the green, green/ white; nothing on the black. Side stand up I get no bleep from any combination.

Loom side there is only 2 wires from the connector so I bridged them with a little welding wire. Started it up. Engaged 1st and the wheel spins, the engine is running fine.

So I think I've identified the fault. Wonder what that's going to cost. So time to tape up the bridge and take it to the MOT like that. They don't test side stand switches on the MOT do they?

If it's a safety feature they might do it.
