OMO,

Some POS neighbour in our street has been keying my family cars (3 so far). I have a suspicion of who it is, but no evidence as such.
This happens when the cars are parked on our private drive ways or on the road. I want to cover the areas we park the car with CCTV & security lighting.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent CCTV system that is good during the day & at night.
TIA

My car is ok atm. Anything happens to it & i'll park it in her living room.

Nothing. There have been a few words said, but no disputes, arguments or anything that would warrant being such a C bomb. She is a psychotic cow & an all out tramp (IMO)

The Swann kits from Maplin are OK, shop around and see if you can get one 2nd hand on ebay. Positioning the cameras well is key (n pun intended).

I've been looking at those. either heading down the DVR route (using a PC as the recording source) or independent cameras which take an SD card.

PM on its way . . . .

I'm thinking of doing the same.

Because my garage is at the end of the garden & its got power, I'm probably going to install either Wifi camera or one connected by Ethernet cables using Homeplugs to my home network. Some cameras will record footage to the Cloud & ping you the image via email or text to your phone.

This solution is a bit cheaper than the Swan system, but I don't know if its better? I suspect the Swan is probably better

Its an option, as is a dummy camera system, which is an even cheaper system!

Which, joking aside, might be a very good reason not to actually catch her at it. Obviously having your car damaged is not very nice and if there is nothing else you can do to stop it happening again then at least identifying the culprit might help move things along, but they are unlikely to lock her away for it and if she is really that disturbed then you may find it will simply get worse if she is actually confronted about it. I'm not saying don't do it, but just think through where this could go before spending lots of money on cameras which in the long run won't actually achieve much.

Are you the only one being targeted, over what time frame have the incidents so far occurred?

Only if you clean up afterwards?

She only rents the house next door (and we know the landlord personally). The aim is to a) confirm it is her b)report her for it c)claim some if not all the cost back for the damage caused d)get her kicked out. This is one of many things in a long line & the landlord has been looking to move her on.

I'd go for A and D, and the best way to get what you need then would be a covert camera, don't go for anything obvious or they will just get devious.

What's omo? Anyway I would catch and call old bill. The more people get away with the more likely to do it again to someone else.

I went for a 4 camera sunluxy system off ebay. Cost £130 for the system with 4 cameras, and a spare 500Gb hard disk i had laying around. Where i live, having cars keyed and stuff stolen is a daily routine event. Since i fitted them, there's a 300 foot chav exclusion zone around my house. We also managed to catch the bike thieves who made off with my first bike, as they were stealing the 2nd as they were well known to the police.

The question is, do you want to catch her, or just deter her? If its the former, a high def webcam in a window and a laptop on constant record would perhaps be a better option...or one of those cheap £20 in car DVR units in a carboard box on a window sill....

Deter? Fit a full multi camera system.

I would personally install a IP system as it runs the power over the cat6.
If your wanting very high quality day and night you'll need to look at the commercial systems. We've got a vista system at work and it records in 1080p day or night. It has caught some interesting sights

Going to get one of those sunluxy systems and see how it goes, can't grumble too much for £100, then installing a WD purple HDD to capture it on. Will be installing it this weekend and seeing how it goes. Does the DVR come with a basic software function installed? if so, how do you find it?
The cameras will be mounted quite covertly, so as much as a deterrent to someone who notices it will catch those who are blind idiots . . . . Plus just a bit more security around the house which is always nice.

Are you going to install in the middle of the night to make sure it's properly covert?? :p

Yup! Being done same time as the gutters, so shouldn't be too noticeable. Until I give in and buy the tannoy system too

I went for the 600 line cameras, much higher res than the basic ones. Worth a thought. Was only an extra £30, and well worth it. You can actually identify people at distance. My system has been fine for over a year, but the higher def cameras mean i only get 3 days record time. Looking at a bigger HD currently for that.

Why didn't you get the optional laser blaster kit to solve your problems or were they out of stock. :smt040

Been on hols for a bit and just picked up this thread. I had (have?) a similar situation with just occasional minor vandalism/damage, seems to be either my property or the neighbouring downstairs flat as targets, pulling windscreen wipers off seems to be a favourite but there has been some really bizarre stuff too, sugar through letterbox etc.

We know who it is. Strangely we are on quite good polite chatting terms, it's when they do a bit of a bender and feel the need to "get" at someone it seems.

I fitted some CCTV and made a point of explaining to the "suspect" very carefully how it works and what it covers, also showing them screenshots so they could see how easy it was to identify people. I said I have 4 cams, although there are actually only 3 which can be seen clearly, they don't know where that elusive 4th cam is.

You can film your property and public areas, but should have the agreement of neighbours if it covers their property. Obviously the downstairs flat occupant is very happy for me to cover their area, and since it is in the cause of safety I assured the "suspect" that it was in their interests to cover their area too, which they couldn't really argue against without looking suspicious.

We've had no further problems.

A couple of practical aspects. Get the right focal length/coverage cams. I'd suggest get a big enough hard drive to leave it recording continuously, I get a lot of false/missed triggers when trying to use motion sensing, also a lot of issues with cobwebs and windy weather etc. Continuous makes it simple. You can reduce frame rate to extend the recording time, 4fps is probably enough in real terms. 2TB drives aren't too expensive now. I can cover well over a month continuous, which is fine for holidays etc. I could schedule auto backup onto another drive if I wanted/needed to. You might consider a PIR detector which switches an infra-red flood to improve image quality if it is very dark, camera LEDs are relatively modest and detail is lost. The street lights go off here at midnight so it's pitch black. The IR flood doesn't disturb neighbours.

I've had stuff from both http://www.cctv42.co.uk/ and http://www.digitaldirectsecurity.co.uk/ with useful help from their techs.
