View Full Version : Regulator-rectifier replacement? Curvy
Long time learner, first time poster so please be gentle :D
I have a 2002 curvy with a fried r/r. People on here say the r/r can be replaced with a gsxr one. I have taken mine off and the wiring is a single 5 wire plug and not a standard double sv plug. The markings say "RS41 33C1" (appears to be for a gsxr) The image is from mine.
My question is, which model of gsxr will be compatible and if I find a r/r with the same plug will the wiring be the same........
I am already grateful for your answers.

The gsxr ones are prone to being iffy
I'd go get an electex world reg rec as it's the permanent fix. It's 90 quid but worth it

Thanks for the replies, I've just had a look at the electex world r/r and it has a different plug to mine. Is there any form of wiring diagram if I have to change the plug.

As above Electrix World.
Bought a straight replacement for my 2000 curvy, thought about a different bike one but came to the conclusion one of theirs would save a mass of potential aggro, it works fine just needed longer screws to attach it to the bike as the design is a deeper (thicker) body to allow more airflow over the fins therefore keeping it cooler.
Got it on their Ebay store as it was cheaper than their website for some reason.
The plug on mine was identical just plug and play, you sure yours isn`t?
Citizen, My plug is a single plug on a 2002 curvy. The manual shows a twin plug as does elextrix world...
Gonna give them a call and see what they say. Thanks.
Looks like the previous owner has already swapped the reg rec and the plug has been changed on the bike.
For the OP to go back to the SV unit he would need to buy the SV connectors.
From the Electrex site, this (http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww.electrexworld .co.uk%2facatalog%2fOnline_Catalogue_Regulator_Rec tifier_206.html&WD=gsxr&PN=RR55.html%23aRR55#aRR55) would do the job and might work out cheaper than changing connectors - not currently in stock unfortunately.

That's the OE single plug for the 2002 SV650.
The SV650 up to 2001 is a twin plug arrangement but the last of the Curvy ie 2002 has a single plug.
Didn't know that. Every day's a school day. :)
Well I've just ordered one from a small company in Essex who had stock. Checking the bike, the wiring loom is original so that makes 21Quest correct (I take my hat to you sir). Everyone's help is as always invaluable. I shall see how the new part works........

I didn't neither! Thanks for that info.
This has reminded on to get a price for swapping out the pointy one

Perhaps it was a cost cutting trial before the universal implementation ergo messed up the SV with the introduction of the cheaply made and cheerful rubbish Pointy :p
The 2002 generator also has shorter wires(saving on copper wire ;) )as the connection to the main loom is closer to the generator side(just under the rear tank bracket).
On the earlier years (99-01) the connection to the main is next to the rectifier.
Both generators are interchangeable but you'd obviously need to extend the wires on the on 2002 generator to get it over to the right of the rear sub-frame or extend the wires on the loom end, to bring the connector closer to the shorter wires of the 2002 generator.
Another bit of obscure information :)

How did you get the bodywork fitted back on over the Elextrex RR? I ordered one for my '99 bike when the battery died suddenly and found the larger size of the eletrex world RR meant as well as needing longer screws the R/H tail bodywork was fouling it and only brute force would have got the front screw back in, plus the risk of it melting/cracking the tailpiece, so it went back. They were good to deal with and money refunded no problem. The original RR seemed to be OK so I check it with a Testmate mini voltmeter reguarly.

I just attached it with the longer screws and fitted the rear plastic over it, did not foul it at all as far as I remember.
Will check all the fixings tomorrow but Im sure I didnt leave any out!

Thanks Citizen, it was the front screw above the battery tray and the lug wouldn't go into the mount on the subframe unless brute force was applied, could see the marks the R/R fin had made on the inside of the tailpiece. I didn't want to crack the 15 year old but still in good nick plastic so it was back to the Suzuki component!

that's really kind - I am now at the stage where I look for any faults in the wiring and connectors, but in a few hours I'll probably come to the conclusion that it is the RR. Just want to make sure it'll fit before I spend the best part of £100 on it.

I tried to get a pic, not sure if it will help but it does sit fine, looks like the top fin is touching the plastics but it hasn't distorted it or caused any heat damage or anything.
It also solved a lot of my issues once fitted.

Thanks ever so much. I will definitely go for this one then IF it turns out I need a new RR. Just posted in another thread, will wait for the experts' answers :-)
