I know it could be perceived that way and you're not the first to say that mav, but my best mate spent more on going on weekends on the lash in Ibiza and other places in the last year than it cost me to replace the Drz with the ktm :D
I did spend a couple of grand more than planned purely because all the ones in my original budget had either been raced to an inch of their life and had loads of hours on or the good ones went before I could even put an offer on them so I thought sod it, you only live once.
It's an awesome bike though, due to it's non standard, massive rear sprocket (I'm guessing it's this) it will power wheelie in 4th gear if you give a massive handful of throttle.

Only joking Phil, I've probably spent a couple of grand on new pushbikes & bits without too much thought.
Going on the lash is a complete waste of time & money, at least you can sell this & recoup your spending, unlike hangovers & vomit

Yep, but I'm best man at his wedding next year and he wants to do Ibiza for his stag weekend, I could buy a cheeky little trials bike (next challenge) for the money it's gonna cost me.
I'm a live for today type of bloke tbh, I don't want a shed of cash in my retirement when I won't be fit enough to enjoy it.

Aye, and after the last couple of years I've had, you never know when the grim reapers going to come and call, too many young people I've known have died before they could even retire.

That's my worry tbh mate, men in my family haven't got a long track record, my dad died at 52.
That's why I do as much fun stuff as possible or my budget allows :D

52 was at the upper end of the 3 colleagues who've passed away, the others were 36 & 44, all from natural causes and not disease related :(
You Uter Uter Bar steward !
KTM are such a laugh !
Go enjoy it

Very Nice!!!
I had to give up off road bikes as I can't behave.
Once you learn to fly, wheelie, stop py and such it's hard to just ride around.
That and once you turn 50 recovery from a fall tajes a bit longer.. :(
Enjoy it. There's nothing like a bike you can ride the pi$$ out of and it likes it.

There's a lot of truth in that Bill, I'm trying to get to grips with wheelies and since I've started going a bit quicker, I fall off more, but crazily all have been at slow speeds.
The above is the reason I won't get track riding training, I know once I'm more skilled I'd ride a lot faster on the roads, I don't want to do that.

A wee Ktoom. You'll love it and you've almost gone sensible buying the enduro (being a 450 it'll still be MENTAL you'll be taking on David Knight soon)
There must be something in the air, after spending saturday at Doune I've once again been looking at MX bikes that I can't afford.

has it got an hour run meter on it?
Probably the best thing you can buy for an enduro or MX bike. saves on guessing how many hours its done since it last spat its guts.... sorry, since it last had a service...
Most of all though enjoy that bad boy it's gonna be a tad quick :D

Oh get you all posh :D
So fricking jealous I'd kill myself on a 450, but I have people hounding me give off road stuff a try instead of just coming along and taking pictures. Sadly for me it'd mean selling the street to afford it and that ain't happening. But I've been offered a loan of a CRF250 or YZ125 if the guys can convince Alan to let me on track.
have you figured out what sorta mileage you get outta that tank? it looks ferking massive guys I'm taking pics of are only putting in a couple of ltrs at a time for 20 mins of madness.
Specialone
25-09-14, 03:44 PM
I reckon on the standard (think it's 9 litres) tank I'll get around 70-80 miles depending on riding before the light comes on then another 20-30 before totally running out.

Very nice! Would make a mean SM too with a second set of wheels :)
To me though that is probably the ultimate off roader...weighs bugger all with loads of guts...careful!
I'm still waiting for KTM to produce an enduro with the 390 engine in it so there's no hours based servicing for a smaller bike!
Specialone
25-09-14, 06:36 PM
It's a trade off, you can't squeeze 55-60 hp out of a 450 single and not expect more frequent servicing and wear and tear.
The best engine for longevity is the 690, the 690r weighs about the same as a drz400 but with nearly 70hp and it's not so highly strung so servicing is a bit more realistic.
kaivalagi
25-09-14, 08:38 PM
60hp @ 111kg certainly is a nice figure when compared to the 690 with 66hp @139kg...
Nearly traded in the SM-T for a 690 enduro until I found out what they were willing to give me for it, it's still on the radar as a great fun bike, just not for me right now

Done some laning on Saturday, I clocked the mpg for the first time, 60.2 miles took 5.02 litres of fuel, happy with that
