Average speed cameras now live - not that any of you would dare!
What's the score, are they all forward facing?

It's claimed they can catch a motorcycle, but as far as I can see, they're forwards only.
I thought they only looked like forward facing ones.

I wouldn't have thought it would be that difficult for the cameras on the other side on the single carriageway sections road to get your registration number.

it does my nut in that they've done this in the name of road safety. SPEND THE MONEY AND MAKE IT DUAL CARRIAGEWAY! should have spent the money that was wasted on the tram folly in Edinburgh on improving that road.

I reckon the cameras will remain even after all the upgrade work is complete.
revenue collector nothing more nothing less.
from what i know they are all linked for the whole stretch so when you get tagged on the first cam you have till the last cam as your average speed unlike the others which were 'gate' logged.
i haven't been up the A9 for over a year and dont intend to ever use it again.

Plenty places for people to go woosh by mistake and then sit it out before they hit the next camera that works out the average. Ive hated the a9 all the time tbh.

.
Not sure about this, but may be mistaken. I undertood there to be 7 separate sections north of Perth, all on single carriageway sections, and one big section for Perth to Dunblane, but that each zone was independent of the others and not linked up across their full length.
On that basis, you can presumably speed to your heart's content in the dualled sections without triggering the average system :-D ... except obviously the multitude of fixed speed cameras and police van cams will catch you instead! :smt019

You could, and I realise I'm going out on a limb here, just obey the speed limit.
Just on the A9 obviously, not between Fort William and Mallaig or anything. Or Invergarry to Kyle of Lochalsh. Or Maryburgh to Ullapool. Or between Lochgilphead and Oban...
Forget it.

Having the sv on a steady 60 mph for what seems a eternity on the a9 doesnt really feel good for the engine. I know its fine but those steady revs and vibration coming from a constantly steady needle just doesnt feel good for it.
