As title, just for two of us in the house, needs to be reliable, nothing too fancy.
The last hotpoint lasted just long enough to get thru the warranty then pop!
Cheers.

Funny enough, we've just replaced our ten year old Indesit washer dryer. We replaced some parts on it last year, heating element and thermal thingy for the dryer. Sadly it has gone again, so we decided to replace the machine this time. Probably would have sufficed just those parts again as they aren't expensive, but its ten years old.
Indesit are the same company as Hotpoint, but I've found them pretty reliable......lets see how this new one goes!
We have a Beko at the moment. Seems to do the job although it sometimes won't drain properly.

Bosch, always had them, just replaced the last one which was about 13 yeare old. In that time the brushes for the motor were replaced, it never broke down, despite daily washes of two children's clothing.
I only replaced it because the program selector had stopped working and the bearings were getting a bit noisy. But it was still working.
Previous one was a Bosch, which also never broke down, it just wore out.
This latest one was on offer at Curry's for £294 delivered, and hopefully I'll get £26 cashback from Quidco.
If I could afford one, I'd get a Meile, super quiet machines.
They consistently get good reviews in Which magazine.

Replaced out Bosch last year with an LG. LG and Panasonic do machines with direct drive, inverter powered motors, so no brushes or belts to wear out. Its pretty quiet too.

Indesit seem to be ok. Don't have much interest in these things but the other half must do about 4 bloody washes each day. It must be at least 8 years old now and has never needed a repair. Sounds a bit like it's mixing cement at times but it refuses to die.

That's why we got another Indesit. It refused to die. I have the washer on every day, several time, and during the winter the dryer is on too. Two kids, two adults and a dog. We now have a 7 +5kg, the old one was 4kg. Maybe I can get away with a few less loads :smt037 £350 not bad, so far its very quiet and beeps at you like a microwave :p

Actually, even with having the combo, and supposedly totally inefficient taking an hour to dry two socks(slight exaggeration there) our electric bill isn't big at all. Although we've just put the electric shower back in use, so I'll see it ramp up!
Being a kitchen designer, Pegasus has a geek fascination with appliances. If budget allowed we'd have a Meile. We were in his cousins house in Cyprus last month and he just had to play with their Meile oven!! :smt101 Mind you it is the first kitchen he hasn't picked holes in
Had an Indesit for many years, eventually door seal went and it was so old I decided to get a new machine. Decent value at the time, but all things change.
Got the entry level Miele at the time, had it now for about 12yrs I think, built to withstand a direct nuclear attack but premium price. Super quiet and yes you really can stand a 50p on edge on the top while it spins. I don't know if today's models are built as well. They advertised them as having a 20yr expected service life.
A friend who gives their washer a fairly brutal life has had a Bosch for a while with no issues. They previously had a Miele I got for them from a deceased estate, they used it for about 5yrs and it's now in use in a rented house, still going strong.

My brother owns a domestic appliance repair/retailers business.
He has an LG, sold me an LG. I seem to recall a 10 year guarantee on the motor.
Previous ones have been zanussi where controller went at 13 months old, Hotpoint that shattered a shock absorber and tried to throw the drum through the side. another zanussi washer dryer that failed to turn off with a load I had left in and when I came back 3 days later was still cooking my shirts that had now turned yellow.
Lynne has the thing on at least twice a day. seems very reliable.

I bought one of these in a hurry last year as my last one went pop.

Its a Beko and tbh for the money I cant fault it - no it wont last as long as a bosch etc but Ill worry about that when it fails.
Must do 10 loads a week and has survived two years of very heavy abuse.
it has a 39 minute quick wash which is ideal for bits like work shirts which just need a refresh most of the time.

We had a Bosch Max that we had to leave at out old house; regretted that. Very good machine indeed.
Currently have a Siemens one (same company as Bosch I think, but more upmarket?). Has a tough life (two teenage sons playing muddle sports at school and weekend). It's at least 5 years old now and we can do the 50p test on it even now.
Would buy Bosch or Siemens appliances every time. Never been let down and, although more expensive than some, they last really well so cheaper overall.
I like the sound of the induction/inverter motors though

Induction motors on washers/dryers have been around for quite a while. Our Whirlpool combo jobbie has one. So far it has needed a new on/off switch, a door seal kit and a door latch kit in the 20, yes 20 years we've had it. The writing has worn off the programme selector dial but luckily Lady Poppy knows how it works by now and it still works fine.

Just done the same. Fed up with Hotpoint. They always seem to fail after 5 years and its always the PCB. I wouldn't mind if the parts were cheap and available but they're not. £180 for a PCB. Same happened to my dishwasher and cooker.

Again we have a Bosch dishwasher, only had to call the engineer out after a build up of muck causing a sensor to show a fault.
Never had one break down, just worn them out and uneconomic to replace worn out pumps or motors.

Just bought an indesit for £229 with £190 off. So far quiet, reliable and cheap to run. Can't fault it.
Best of luck with an Indesit. They are now owned by Whirlpool (Hotpoint) and built to Hotpoint standard. See the Admin post above. When I bought my last washing machine I was advised by the salesman to avoid Indesit and Hotpoint because they were now poor quality. We have since bought another Beko.
I have a bosh. The girlfriend has an LG. Both great. Bought them both off of AO.com. possibly the beat customer service ever from any company I have felt with. The delivered my girlfriends washer dryer up 72 stairs on a Sunday for no extra charge.
