Hi i'm wondering what I tell insurance regarding how long i have had my license.
on my counterpart I have entitlement history showing my A2 License from 13/10/09 which at the time was the full bike license. I was 17 at the time and had to restrict my bike - it was then upgraded to the new style tests and my license changed
and my new "A" license from starts from 21/04/12
as far as I am concerned I have had my full motorbike license for 5 years but according to this it is only 2 so officially what should I be telling insurers?
Thanks for help!

I'd definitely be saying 5 - and that's exactly what I do.
I did my license under the old system. When my license renewed the license has the new brackets, so it appeared as though I lost 2 years due to the different date. I have always put down & maintained I have 2 years additional to that date (I still have my pass certificate & original license to prove it).

I don't actually have my pass certificate any more but would the entitlement history count as proof?
Thanks for the help
What is the exact wording they are asking for?

What is the exact wording they are asking for?
type of license: Full UK motorcycle
Years held: ....
which does lead me to say 5 but the A2 license is no longer the full license...
A2 Standard motorcycle up to 35 kW (and a power-to-weight ratio not more than 0.2 kW per kg), bike mustn’t be derived from vehicle more than twice its power Direct access route - theory and practical
Staged access route - 2 years experience on A1 motorbike and a further practical test 19

I would tell your insurer exactly what you have said above. That way they cant say you failed to disclose relevant information in the event of a claim. They like abit of wriggle room so dont give them any.

+1, send them an email and ask for a very explicit reply, so you it in writing.

Good idea, I think that's what I will do... cover everything - even if they do not reply I can keep the email I sent as some sort of proof of letting them know. I'll see what they say on the phone but like you say... Something in writing is best.
Thanks for all the help
you do not gain a full licence till all restrictions are over, all other dates refer to having a restricted licence even though you may have passed your test two years prior. after the two years the restrictions are removed automatically for you to gain your full unrestricted licence.
if you passed your test via direct access and were over the age limit then your licence would have been a full unrestricted licence so the date passed is the true date.
Surely that means the I surance companies are discriminatory against riders who have been riding longer but had to go through the restriction due to age. I hate insurance companies
