Wednesday 10th and don't go back until the 5th Jan. What will I find to do with all that time?
I just know the wife will have a list!

Tell me about it! I retired two months ago and I'm still working my way through "The list"! I have at least managed to persuade her to take most of January off so we can go away for a few weeks.

I guess the worst I have come across was when my daughter was first time as a nursing student. Supernumerary so shouldn't have been counted in the numbers etc. late Christmas eve, early Christmas day/boxing day, Late new years eve followed by early new years day. Her ward manager who rota'd her for it said she had to work them as other staff were in, so students should as well. At the time she was funding herself by working bars, so walked off her course as she would have earned a months pay in just those couple of days. and made a formal complaint about students being misused.
Fast forward a few years and she is now being seconded by the NHS to do her nursing degree, so gets a basic wage, her uni fees paid, bank work if she wants to do those silly shifts.
And even though it is Xmas we're pretty guaranteed to get some a hole wanting us to service or fix there car on the 24 th at 1pm,cos they are going away.
Un lucky. Your not working so what makes you think we should....

A bit like when I used to work as an insurance assessor. Request they leave the vehicle at the repairers on such a date and get the, Can he not see it at my home of Sunday?
My secretary had a stock answer. I am afraid engineers are unreasonable, they expect to spend the weekends at home with their families. They also need to discuss the repairs with the body shop and without the vehicle being present, there is a possibility that damage could be missed.

Depends on who wins the argument - my over-worked boss who typically does a 12 hour day and appreciates me doing all sorts of little things letting him focus on the big picture, or the FD, who wants to rid the company of us contractors. Silly really considering those of us who provide project and analysis support are no more expensive than permanent staff. In reality I'll probably knock off somewhere around 5pm on Friday 19th, with a possibility of a call to do a day or two between then and Monday 5th Jan.

Technically finishing up on the 19th, but working from home the last week of that.
Trying not to get into wind down mode quite yet is tricky!
23rd then work a few days between Xmas and new year and then nothing until new job on the 20th of Jan :)

No work since November, bad time of the year to find new work it seems...finally starting new contract 5th Jan though :)
Meh... 24th whenever the boss lets us go to the pub. On call on the 25th. Then back at work on the 29th.
Still I suppose it's an improvement from working Xmas, Boxing Day and NYD and all the week days in between like I used to.
Bah humbug.

Boss will come round at midday on the 24th to let us off early, however I won't be leaving until at least my normal time of 4 as I'm on a clock, so leaving early means less pay for me. Also I'm back on the 29th and will be expected to be up to date by the end of the day so don't really want to have to stay four hours the nto catch back up!
pm 23rd through to am 5th Jan
As I'm retired I broke up last Boxing Day in preparation this this one,Merry Christmas all, role on the spring and June the 3rd for IOM,that's my Christmas present to me!!!

As me and Paul were saying Sunday at the cafe.
We're at the age where we are unlikely to reach retirement age as they keep moving along.

When I worked a shift pattern in a medical lab at Cardiff's Heath Hospital I didn't get time off over bank holidays, even did a 7am to 11pm shift once as someone took a day off...
9 years later and I come and go as I please, this year I am booked "out of office" from 5pm Thursday 18th December till 8am Monday 5th January.
