Right, here we are. This was my Peugeot Speedfight when it was finished.

And this is where I'm up to at the minute. i won't bore you with all of the ins & outs, but it's basically a nut & bolt rebuild & it's flaming hard work after messing with single cylinders & 2 strokes.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfa1/v/t1.0-9/10616144_10205062655745511_3880204014255337659_n.j pg?oh=1391aa0068faefbccb4f2e8b299230a8&oe=55011E45&__gda__=1425902504_ef4f63219eb67f70a915600c6f7a564 1

the paintwork is a LOT worse than it looks in the pictures & I'm having problems with the carbs, but it'll get there :)
I've also rebuilt a Little GN125 for the missus, but she hasn't ridden it yet. This was bought for £200. I spent about £150 on new chinese bits & it runs well.
https://scontent-b-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/10559856_10204414995154401_78256462208706547_n.jpg ?oh=428c4768eba6684d5c2474e82cb336e6&oe=54FD56C2
And this is the bike that needs some serious love & attention. I wished that the guy that has it knows how much it's worth. I could've bagged myself a bargain. It has sat in that place for at least 20 years gathering weeds lol. The engine is in pieces in a garage somewhere else. This CB750 Phil Read replica is 1 of only 150 built, so, when rebuilt could be worth more than £10000

Ignore my other post Col
For a bike that old, it looks pretty sweet, but if its not been touched for a while, I can understand why its a pig

More details on the CBX please, I like to read a good build thread.
And this CB is it now yours?

I wish that CB was mine SH, but sadly, no, the bloke just wants me to renovate it for him.
I have taken shed loads of pictures of the CBX's. https://www.facebook.com/colin.hughes.1213/media_set?set=a.10204676563333442.1073741896.12166 57430&type=1
Parts are a nightmare for it. They were only built for about 3 years & they didn't sell too well because of the Inboard Disc system. I owned one for 6 months about 25 years ago, but had to sell it because I was broke, so it's more nostalgia than trying to make any money on it.

Well no one else is going to admit to it, but that Speedfight looks fabulous, I would gladly have a blast on one of those. Having never ridden a scooter, I can only imagine the fun they are. :D
I have always been fond of the CB and CBX, I recently did a tour around Southern Thailand on a new CB500 and the engine just purred away like a trooper and even handled on a muddy track through the rain forest. However that 750 will be a swine to do, but will be worth every broken finger nail and seized bolt. Good luck with that one.
I am in agreement with the other guys though, a build thread would be greatly enjoyable.
PS, welcome back. I know how it feels to grow disillusioned and leave, only to come back a while later with a different attitude. Nice work on the bikes.

cheers Jayne. The Speedy was a laugh to ride, it's just that I looked like a right **** riding it, so it had to go. I'm having problems with the CBX's engine. She doesn't want to run right whatever i do to it, but I will conquer it as I've got a spare engine for parts under my bench :). When I have a bit of time I'll do a write up on the rebuild

I had one about 25 years ago Stretchie, so nostalgia took over lol. When it's done, it will be a keeper I think :D

Quick update:
The Phil Read honda never came off, unfortunately. The guy hasn't said anything about it since.
The CBX550 is still at the same stage as it was before because I ended up buying one of, what I think, is an Icon of the 90's A ZXR750J1 Kawasaki. I've always wanted one since they were introduced, but never had the opportunity. It was only built for 2 years because Kawasaki thought that the Europeans were limiting the power of all large capacity bikes to 100bhp, but it never happened, so Kwak redesigned it with more power & different looks & called it the L. I think that the J is the best looking ZXR in the whole range, so when this one appeared for £350 I couldn't say no.

It was a stolen recovered that the guy couldn't be bothered with. It had been in a ditch for a while, then left in a shed for over 12 months, so was in quite a state.
I won't bore you too much, but it's had hours & hours spent on it cleaning & un siezing, painting & scrubbing & she now looks like this.

A quick update.
I've been that tired & fed up after work that I'd lost my mojo for playing in the shed. So, I kicked my own butt last night & got outside to play.
I've replaced the front forks on the Kwacker with new seals & then cleaned & painted the front wheel. It's come up a damned sight better than the back wheel, so I'm quite pleased with the results

Had a very early morning this morning as my inconsiderate neighbours decided to get in at 3am, then have a very loud discussion until about 6ish, so decided to go in the man cave early doors (4am). Made very good progress on the fuel tank of the ZXR.

Tarted the front brakes up yesterday, lots better :) Also fitted the fairing to see what sort of work is going to be needed to make them good...... Bit out of my comfort zone, but will give it a go, anything for a laugh lol. I've a feeling that I'll be buying another nose piece. I'll keep trying, it's the only way to learn :)

Didn't bother trying my hand at making the fairings good as a bargain appeared on good old Ebay. Bought these for £51 inc postage. I have a little bit of work to do on them as some of the brackets are broken off, but they are 100% better than my Red Bull ones.

Looking very nice!
My dad's got a ZXR750 H2 and I had a ZXR400 L3. He's never said a bad word about it and he said it's probably his favourite bike he's ever owned! My 400 was an incredible bike and i'm desperate to get another one, I definitely shouldn't have sold it...
mister c
08-08-15, 03:42 PM
I had the 400 L9 as a track bike (see avatar) & wish now that I'd never sold it. We thought we were moving to the Isle of Man, but was let down by the company. I have to say that the ZXR750 J has to be my favourite looking motorbike ever built (other than the MK1 Fireblade & I can't afford one of those), so when this turned up cheap, I couldn't say no.

Had a good day with the ZXR yesterday. Sorted the coolant leak from the engine. Thought I had an electrical problem, which turned out to be a very dirty starter motor, so stripped & cleaned that. Air filter cleaned & refitted & rear end has had a new paint job. All in all a cracking day.

Geo have a cuddle with your sv.
If you're like me it's likely to be the only Japanese twin you'll ever have the opportunity with. ;)

Finished the basecoat, so thought I'd bring it out in the open for the 1st time in months & fit the bodywork to see what it looks like. I'm waiting for the decals to arrive, then I'll spray the laquer coat. I need to get it done as soon as poss because I keep catching it & putting little scratches in it. I've told the missus that I don't think I'll be able to sell it, I love it. If I could, I'd put it in the house instead of the telly :)

Well, it's all been positive on the paint front. I laquered, t cutted & polished it over the weekend. It's far from perfect, but it's been a brilliant exercise for me. The bike looks fantastic now, I'm really pleased with it. Now that the paint is done I can start working on the electrics & other small items & she should be done....... Just in time for Winter :(

Cheers guys.
In the past I have rushed things & made mistakes. This time I have taken my time & done things right. I've got a compressor now, so am going to start looking at using a proper spray gun instead of rattle cans like I have with the ZXR. It's all about learning, keeps the old brain active :)

Little update:
Things are starting to slow down a little as money is a little tight at the moment, but I have got hold of a 2nd hand screen. I wanted clear, but this turned up on Ebay for £10.50, so had to get it. Mirrors are on their way (£15 for the pair), so, looking at my list, I have a chain & sprocket kit, front indicators & a speedo cable & it should be done :)

Had a busy afternoon today. I was going to go to the Classic Mechanics Show, but ended up playing in the shed.
Had a nightmare with wiring, couldn't get the headlights to work & after changing the whole wiring loom & right hand switch gear, found out it was the ignition switch :( Never mind, another thing learned, so didn't complain too much, it was just winding me up a bit after spending hours & hours looking for the wrong fault. Anyway. This is where I'm at now. I have won a set of indicators on Ebay, but they haven't arrived yet, so, all I'm needing now is a chain & sprocket kit & a speedo cable. I am so pleased with how it's turned out. I still think it's the nicest designed motorcycle ever built :)
