Minecraft help

It's my nephew's 12th birthday soon, he's mad on Minecraft so I thought I could make him a Minecraft themed cake. Trouble is I've never played it so I haven't got a clue what it's all about.

I've found this cake online - looks pretty easy for me to recreate at home, I'm not paying £225 for it either!

But can someone explain what the characters are? Sometimes there seems to be a pig. What should I include? Is it always green squares?

the left hand one is the player character, the right is a "creeper", the little square is of course TNT.

If you have an android phone you could download the demo version of the pocket game for free.

There are pigs, wolves, zombies, spiders, cows, chickens and sheep from what I remember.

There's also some other higher end bad guys.


Basically the entire game is made up of square blocks that can be destroyed or placed, the player character is about two blocks in height. It's an open ended game about building, destroying, mining, crafting and surviving because the spiders, creepers and zombies will try to kill you. No motorbikes unfortunately but you can get minecarts and rails.

Do do you personalise the player character to look like you, a bit like the Wii?

not really, there's a choice of different ones but no specific personalization unless you want to make your own skins.

Ok, that makes sense. Well the characters look pretty easy to create, certainly simpler than the Tom and Jerry giant cheese wedge or Toy Story cakes I've made this year.

You can change the 'skins' of the charater you are and add wings or stuff like that

My youngest was a red panda, but she's changed to some sort of fairy character now, a bit like the Wii, but more complex.

I don't fully understand it either, but there's plenty of Youtube videos of game play to watch

Main character is called Steve if you want to google for images. You could make 1 large cake as the earth block

Amazing work there LPH.
You could make a decent living doing cakes if you ever leave Lords.
Wedding and specialty cakes are quite expensive here.

Best of luck with the mineccraft theme. Not much to work with.

Thank you, but it takes me too long. Doing 4 or 5 a year for the kids is quite enough for me on the novelty cakes, knocking up a lad of cupcakes for things like TOGMIE is a doddle in comparison.

Well apart from having to make the cake when I had a bit of a lurgy and would rather have been asleep, it didn't turn out too bad and Michael seemed pretty pleased with it.
