View Full Version : Exhaust hanger compatibility?

Hi guys and girls.

I want to remove my pillion foot rests seeing as I don't have a rear seat on my bike, I've got a pyramid insert instead, but seeing as the R/H side foot rest is also the exhaust bracket I need to find a replacement.

I searched for SV650 specific hangars and I'm NOT paying the ridiculous prices that everywhere seems to be charging! £45 for a metal plate with a couple of holes drilled out of it?! I don't think so!

So, I was wondering whether hangars from other bikes will fit? At least so I can widen my search. I've found a couple of GSXR hangars for about £10 so if they're compatible then brilliant!

Thank you in advance, any input will be appreciated.

I was literally thinking about this this morning. That's why I came to look on here. I haven't looked myself yet, but £45. does seems excessive.

Hopefully someone can help.

Yay I'm not the only one! Haha
it really is, it's a piece of metal with a couple of bends and some holes cut out, it shouldn't cost more than £15.
I'd make one myself if I had the tools but I had to leave too much behind when I moved...

If a GSXR hanger will fit I've found a new one for £12 from China. The cheapest that I've found that's made to fit the SV is £25 from the UK and that's about it for under £30...

I wonder if anyone actually knows or will this stay a mystery forever? :O

Found this one for £36 delivered.

Either black or silver. Looks well made, although I haven't used them before.
I know there are some quite a bit cheaper from China etc, but I guess the old 'you get what you pay for' applies to.

I've just had my insurance renewal through, it's gone from £190 fully comp last year to £133. Then after a bit of comparing I've managed to get it for £112. Think I'll use the money I've just 'saved' and get one of these.

Evotech stuff is ok, although i haven't used that exhaust hanger.

As for the original question from the OP, you'll only get the answer to your question by buying the cheaper GSXR ones until you find one that fits. Which might be self defeating on a cost saving basis.

I can't imagine cheaper ones being noticeably inferior, it is just a piece of metal that just has to support the exhaust so I don't see what could go wrong, I had to improvise with some copper wire to hold the silencer on my old crosser one time.

The GSXR one looks pretty similar to the SV hanger. I know what you mean though, by paying more you get the right thing straight away. I just can't bring myself to spend that much on a metal plate...
the GSXR hanger from China has oblong holes for adjustment, maybe that would be enough to get it to fit if it's not a huge difference

Yup, that'll help & you can probably bend it to fit

Thatcs what I thought too, also I have a P-clamp on my end can so I can put it wherever it needs to be so in theory even if the GSXR hanger doesn't fit by default I should be able to move stuff round and make it work, in theory! Haha

umm I'm not sure what year of sv you have, but this is very cheap in my opinion, so should suit you perfectly ;)

Thanks for that Darren. I have an 01 curvy and I don't know if the spacing is the same, that one says 80km though so I'll measure mine when I get a chance
