They were just the catalyst I needed to get the fencing at their end of the garden done.

I had a hoon down to Shrewsbury today. No real reason apart from a decent deli in town that sells good bacon!

I'd stopped to take this picture near Ellesmere,

When I heard a jet in the distance. I could see a Typhoon low level with after burners on, so I knew it was doing a display. Head down, **** up to RAF Shawbury where I saw it land. No time to get the camera out though. It was due up again at around 3.00pm, so after a quick trip to the deli, I found myself sitting at the end of the runway, watching Squirrel and Griffin DHFS helicopters being put through their paces.

The Typhoon was with a Battle of Britain special on the pan, waiting to go with a special tail Typhoon alongside. Eventually, they taxied right past us, waving and roared off!

Cheers Mav - I'm hungry now!

Pete - those little training helicopters are all very nice but as my in-laws found when you have them overhead all day they start to grate on you. They lived about three miles from Shawbury and it was a beautiful tranquil spot until the training school moved there and they found themselves on the "circuit". When MIL died a few years ago FIL wasted no time moving to the other side of Grinshill Hill to avoid them.

I can imagine! I'd be quite happy there, but they are noisy, especially the Griffins doing underslung load training.

The Typhoons were there for the Land Owners day where the locals are invited in for a slap up feed and party to say thanks for putting up with the noise.

I've been driving/driven/ridden past there on the A49 since 1976 and although I knew Shawbury was there, I never bothered to visit. It's a lovely spot, stunning scenery with great food all around.

wait till you have to get the drains taken out ;)

my experience was a stunning nurse that said 'i'm great at taking those out or you can go back into surgery' ok you do it i said. next thing i know she has pulled the curtains shut then jumped on the bed and straddled me. i'm lying there thinking WTF but oohh well in for a penny in for a pound if i have a heat attack i'll die happy. the nurse then says are you ready then proceeded to grab the wires and tubes and yank the fekers out with one big pull. my tiny brain was taken off the pain by having a stunning nurse straddling me until it was time for the catheter to come out.. talk about embarrassed, it was another WTF moment and i said you were supposed to fix my heart not take inches from me manhood :smt104

Nice pics BP.
Love the effects in the second one.
Is that a bridge in the first pic or just a monument?
Seems an odd colour for the surrounding landscape.

Here's two strangley peaceful looking pics I took on my phone during lunch on the day of my heart attack.
Something I usually wouldn't take time for.

Ran across an old pic of my Grandfather (pictured) and Great Uncle's 1915 Harley Davidsons.

Believe this pic to be from the same year.
Note the street was dirt, the sidewalk was made of wood and the women all wore dresses and are sat 'sidesaddle' on the bikes.

It was hiding under the spare wheel cover on a horsebox trailer at work.

Bill, that's a cracking piece of history! Love it.

Do you mind if I download and save it?

Don't mind at all. Please do.

great photo Bill. that would get framed and take a commanding spot on my wall if it were me.

Now that's an idea! May do it!
Just wish it didn't have that torn bit.

the torn bit just adds character and authenticity to it and in this day and age of perfection due to digital photography its a joy to see.

you bettered my granddads pic by a good 40 years :-)

Thanks Kenzie, he's lovely. I've got a later model of your camera - I'll see if I can find any spiders to take shots of

I'm having a nice police day too.

I can't take credit for these, but they are such super shots I thought you guys would appreciate them. It's a sell out Test match at Lord's and the chaps who fly the Met Police helicopter were in the area and took these pics. They were happy to share them with me. Of course as a thank you I'll be giving them a tour of the ground soon. :D

Champagne sales have been amazing the first 2 days. And enough Pimms to fill several swimming pools I imagine.

Hmmm, Pims on a Sunny day YES!!! I don't get to drink it very often though...

I knew something was missing when I first looked at the pics but couldn't put my finger on it until just now.
Where are the cars?
A crowd this size must surely mean a massive car park somewhere nearby even if they are bused into the stadium.
However if just emptied 2 swimming pools worth of champagne it may be best of they are not driving.

Littlepeahead

No car parks nearby. The only people allowed to park on site are players, committee and a few lucky staff, which includes me tomorrow. All other staff have to be bussed in from a car park in Regents Park. The public and Members all have to use public transport.

Yep Thats the American in me showing again.
aka Homer Simpson moment (Duh)
It's hard to even fathom public transport that works anywhere near well enough to move a crowd of people that size.
Even in NYC if that many people successfully negotiated the public transport system to an event (other than on New Years eve when the whole city stops), it would make headline news here. LOL

Depends on your expectations. Public transport around London is generally excellent, granted, but this doesn't apply to most other cities in the UK. Also, I'm not sure it really works "well enough" as with a crowd that size, there are often massive queues.

I remember one night out at the O2 Arena, it was a major struggle getting onto the tube in time to catch the last train home, and it's not as if we live very far away.

Yep, I've had to leave shows at Wembley early to make sure I get the last train.

Manchester is an excellent example, they laid on extra buses to get everyone from the Etihad to the city centre, so that everyone got home.

In Germany its the same, extra trains.

In London it doesn't work like that.

We had long periods in the lead up to the Olympics when even on major match days there was no Jubilee line which is the one that serves Lord's and Wembley due to engineering works.
