Such is my dedication that yesterday at lunchtime I got absolutely soaked going out to take photos of the Gurkha band. They didn't let the rain stop them entertaining the crowd so I felt it would be churlish to let the rain stop me from taking their photos as I'd promised to do it.

Wow lots of great pics!
Liking the new 'do' LPH!
Lookin' good. Even in the wet.
Makes you look younger!
Great castle pic Kenzie!
Lots of good stuff from BP.
But your Mr. Bean... I've seen this bloke on youtube supposedly re-living, re-telling of his MOD days.
Both he and the bike are a bit more odd than mod but that face 9and scooter) is unforgetable.
Richie love the first and the last pics.
Especially the first.
Don't see that many 'on the fly' pics any more. Love it.
Couldn't ride today so spent a little quality time cleaning/piddling with the bike.
OCD, it's not a sickness, it's a gift!

Here's mine for today. Still running it in, so another early morning bimble to my favourite place, Rudyard Lake.

Took my nephew to London. Horrible weather and delayed trains but we did the new glass floor at Tower Bridge, stood at the base of the Shard where it was too wet for photos, had hot chocolate to warm up, rode London buses from London Bridge via St Paul's to Baker St, lunch at Nando's, up to Lord's then home with a McFlurry to keep us going.

@Richie...great people shots..but a question.....
With the less candid shots, ie the woman sat looking straight at you, do you ask if they mind being photographed, or just snap away anyway? She obviously doesn't appear to mind and made a nice shot.
Just curious
I waved at her first.. and got her attention pressed the button :)

@Richie...great people shots..but a question.....
With the less candid shots, ie the woman sat looking straight at you, do you ask if they mind being photographed, or just snap away anyway? She obviously doesn't appear to mind and made a nice shot.
Just curious
I often ponder this as I'd like to have a go at more of a street theme. I snapped my dad at a market earlier this year and the stall holder he was talking to demanded to know why I took a picture of him/his stall. Have seen some pro (semi-pro ?) snappers with a lanyard on and a notice about taking pictures in public but never had chance to ask them about the text on it and have never found one online.
Anyone else had any encounters or advice on this?

I've got this shiney shiney to fit, once I've renewed the seals. A colleague at work has got a powder coating kit & oven at home, he managed to split the caliper, where I couldn't.

It was a nice day yesterday and inspired by Pete I decided to try and capture some of the birds that are getting through huge volumes of suet pellets at my feeders right now. I don't have a remote release doohickey on my phone so I had to fabricate a hide. One large step ladder and a pair of manky old curtains normally used as drop cloths and voila!
https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8801/18295834852_c8371f0aa3_b.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/tSJWhu)Hiding near the feeders (https://flic.kr/p/tSJWhu) by Trevor Laight (https://www.flickr.com/photos/116210840@N03/), on Flickr
The neighbours probably thought I was nuts but what the heck. We have flocks of up to twenty starlings coming and going all the time with lots of skwarking juveniles all chasing the adults until they work out how to extract the seeds and pellets themselves and I got several nice ones of them. A timid robin popped up at one point and try as I might the Blue Tits were so quick I was lucky to get more than a blurry yellow streak. See my Flikr feed under the Birds album for these.
Two hours in, just as I was getting sore and about to throw in the towel, I finally got the shot I'd been waiting for. There are two of these lovely things popping in all the time, so I assume they're nesting nearby. One is slightly bigger than the other so I'm guessing they're mum and dad birds gathering food to feed growing fledglings. They clearly did not like the hide as they kept away most of the time and as soon as they heard the shutter they were spooked (the 700D does not have a silent mode unfortunately). Not to worry - I got the pic I was waiting for - yay! And I packed up after that so they could continue to feed uninterrupted. So, I give you, one of our Great Spotted Woodpeckers.

Nice shot and worth the persistence. Isn't there a mirror lock up mode on the 700. That would cut down on the noise and vibration.
Forget that. I've just read the manual and it doesn't work the way I thought. The mirror doesn't stay up and reverts after each shot.
From yesterday. Messing around with the star filter on my TZ35

Forgiven old fruit. It was your remote control shots that inspired me so all's good.
One other recent event that got me out of the house was only uploaded over the weekend. One of High Wycombe's odd traditions is weighing in the mayor and the town dignitaries at the start of the mayoral year. I've posted this in previous years but hung around to the end this time (it gets a bit boring after a while) when the mayor posed for the press snappers with cadets, aldermen, town crier, mace bearer, clerk.... If you have put on no weight over the year you get a cheer, but if you've piled on the pounds (old tradition so they make a thing of it not being kilos) you get a hearty "booo" from the crowd. The first and biggest boo of the day was for our newly re-elected MP, who claimed it was all part of his long term plan for cheers for the rest of his parliamentary term. Daft sod, but it was nice to chat to him afterwards, especially as he's also a biker.
Councillor Mohammed Hanif, Mayor of High Wycombe, 2015-16.

Great pics Pete. Btw, did your bird swallow the fish? Only ask because they usually swallow their catch head first. Looks like he* is going to take it back as either an offering for their mate or to feed young.
Keep an eye on the river banks and see if you can spot the burrow.
* summising it's a he from the all black beak.
Bluepete
02-06-15, 05:51 AM
He is definitely feeding a brood. I've been watching him for a few months now and I know exactly where the burrow is! He will bring a fish back to a set of branches near the nest site, watch what's going on, flit about a bit, then scoot into the burrow.
Fortunately, it's in a local nature reserve/woodland, so those of us that know about it take great care not to make it obvious. The burrow is visible from the path, as are his favourite perches but he's so confident, it's almost untrue!
A few weeks ago, I was watching him when a woman asked what I was doing. I said I was watching a bird, she saw it and tried to convince me that it was a woodpecker! Apparently, woodpeckers are the only brightly coloured UK bird...

New part time work.
This old estate is operated as a local museum during the week and rented out to members of the historical society for weddings and special events on the weekends. (usually Saturday)
They have hired the wife and I as caretakers to do light house keeping after closing on Fridays before the weekend events.
Most is done by the normal staff so we just tidy up for the events.
Takes between and hour and a half to two hours to get everything back to immaculate and pays each of us nearly what we'd make in an entire day at our regular jobs.
Perks include making us members of the historical society and free use of the house or grounds during the week for photographs, birthday parties, etc.
