It should only be showing one part number: 09263-25059 but they do a lot of other parts,

This is Bibio's Quote: also the Pointy 650 swingarm bearings are on less than half price (£14.90 each) offer at the moment. part code 09263-25059 so get them while you can.

What were the symptoms that led to the advice that replacement bearings are required?

In many pointy SV's there seems to be a bit of side to side play in the swingarm that won't necessarily be fixed by new bearings.

Have a read here - clicky (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=145453)

Just read the huge thread the play is side to side on mine too. I just called ma Mech telling him about the shims he's still saying I should replace my bearing too as I'll have the arm off anyways.

May be worth finding out which bearings are causing the play.
My MOT fail slip said "excessive swingarm" play... and found it was caused by the shock linkage knuckle bearings. This caused play in the vertical direction. Worst one on mine was the one that connects the knuckle to the frame. Bought a couple of sets from different suppliers as I found they had play in them from new. Fitted the ones that had the least play and a year later they got a mention in the next MOT... not for "excessive" that time though.

there should be no up down movement on the swingarm but suzuki say that side to side is normal. i have a little up-down play due to not replacing the washers on the knuckle to frame which causes he inner bearing to move on the bolt.

if the MOT inspector has only felt side to side play then ask him/her to phone suzuki but i doubt you will get anywhere with this.

I cant see you needing new bearings after 5000 miles... like you said in the other thread

Iv just been advised (by the garage I take the bike to) that I need to replace my swinging arm bearings due to play. I think the shims are what I need as the bike has only done 5000 miles

the mileage makes no odds, suzuki are famous for not using enough grease on things when assembling their bikes. if water gets into the bearings they will start to rust and when this happens then it's goodnight to the bearing needles and inner race.

Well that makes me scared about mine, 10 months old, 10,000 miles

Ill get it checked

you should be, if the bearings are shot then its a hefty bill as its a fairly difficult job for a novice and there are a loooot of bearings and races if they all need done which will run into hundreds of £ and if letting a garage do the work i would not expect to have change from £350.

i knew about the problem so from day 1 of the bike ownership which was 1000 miles i stripped and greased all the linkage and swingarm bearings. after 25k i think i need to do them again and i will be expecting a few to be fubar.

With mine being ridden in all weathers, there's a good chance of water ingress then. Great, I've also got the expensive service coming up :(

when was the last time you checked your tyre pressures?

Tommo1988

Front has just been put on yesterday and rear hmmm can't remember :s

Bibio

just because you have had a new front tyre put on it does not guarantee that the pressures are correct. Front is 33psi, rear is 36psi

out of interest how often do you do your pre ride checks?

Tommo1988

I ride the machine literally every day checking oil and tyres lights etc quiet often. The lad who put the tyre on asked me what pressure to set it at. 33 psi is what I said

My Brother in Law works for Fowlers in Bristol, but they are not cheap.

When my bearings out back went, I had to replace all of them that run the rocker, or to give it it's real name, the rear cushion lever (https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/parts/5291176/sv650s-k3-k7-03-07/rear-cushion-lever).

What is useful about Fowlers though is the parts fiche which gives part numbers. This is the one for the swing arm (https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/parts/5291175/sv650s-k3-k7-03-07/rear-swinging-arm).
