Hello people i am after some help. I've let my bike run out of oil on the way to work the other day (school boy error i no!!) Anyway the rear wheel locked up and there's a complete loss of power, there is also the most horrible knocking sound coming from the engine :(. I have since put oil in but the symptoms are still the same. I don't believe the engine has ceased as it still runs?? I have taken the top of the air box off today and the coarse black sponge inside the air box is drenched in i believe petrol and water and has mayonnaise type residue. I am no bike mechanic but id say its pretty ****ed!. Any one shed some light on this, is it worth getting a new engine??

nope your engine is toast. the big ends will be fubar not to mention the bore and small ends will now have rapid wear associated with no oil. no bikes like low oil levels never mind no oil and if the rear wheel locked up then its a sure sign of goodnight and thanks for all the fun.

you have paid the ultimate price for a simple 2min pre ride check.

Ouch, time for a rebuild thread then!

I have seen a couple of second hand engines on E-Bay recently, good luck finding one that suits.

nope SV650 twin spark (K9) are different due to the 2 plug head and as far as i'm led to believe the oil/water gallery's are different but i could be wrong.

So its either a re build or a like for like swap?

i could be wrong on this also but i pretty sure that the big ends are not replaceable or are very hard to do. TBH its fubar and the time/parts/special tools cost would outweigh the cost of a s/h engine

your better off trying to get an engine that is off a low mileage crashed bike, beware of people selling engines as a loooot of them are like yours and the people selling them are chancing their luck and want to recover their costs.

or cut your losses, sell the bike as a non runner (there are lots of gullible people out there) and buy a new one.

Second option sounds good to me! Sounds like it would be the easiest and safest way of going about it. What do you think a non runner would be worth? Its not in the best condition

depends... how long is a piece of string..

pop a pic up in its current state and the org might give you an indication or how much it's worth.
